I’ve been critical to these movies only in that I have been a performance shop owner and builder, I’ve sacrificed my body to racing, lost friends to it and to jail. So the early films do hit home even if exaggerated. Not too keen on the latest couple but I do still like the franchise although I would have taken a far different approach to the later if I was at the helm.
I liked Jesse, more screen time would have been good. Maybe a short about his adventures with the first crew, or the events that lead to his fathers imprisonments, but I feel at this point it’s been too long and wouldn’t really be worth it to de-age him. Han was brought back in a way that worked but again seeing him pop up in this makes me worried. Is he going to be some super soldier like Elba from H&S? I hope not.
Leon would be neat to have closure on. As said in the films he just showed up and he’s long gone. Yet the appeal to me was based on his car, the Skyline he used was not 25 years old and at the time Motorex was the only legal-ish importer. I assumed he probably was an inheritance kid for some reason, reminded me of some customers I had with more money than sense.
Jesse’s dad could be an interesting add on, out of jail, angry his kid got killed while essentially being looked after by Dom. Then there was the mechanic in F&F who Dom about dropped the motor on. I kind of thought that might have been Jesse’s dad being the attitude and resentment. But with the villains they have now, he wouldn’t be enough interest for all the flash and stunts. Could make a toned down kidnapping film with some good car chases.

I've always wanted closure to both Jesse and Leon. Leon showing up ( or being called upon by Dom ) in the last film would be great to see. Leon was one of my favorite characters in the first film.

Some of his lines alone are almost iconic when referring to the first film :

" Look who it is! Ole Coyotes R Us! "
" Nah, he ain't here for the food V. "
" I like his haircut "
" I like this part "
" Street's closed pizza boy, find another way home "

I say these lines from time to time...using Leon's voice, yes I'm a huge nerd

Ahh there's the twist to end the series. Due to Jesse being left for dead at the end of Fast 1, he and Leon masterminded this whole thing.....

Maybe a stupid question but do we know who the guy on the right is? I can't recall him in the previous movies but it's been a while since I saw Tokyo Drift.

I didn't recognize him in the trailer but my brother said he was also in Tokyo Drift. Wikipedia says it's Jason Tobin and he played Earl Hu, a friend of Han's.

I know Justin Lin certainly thinks that Han is a really beloved character but let's be honest... is he? I mean does anyone really care that much about him. Yeah he kind of looks cool eating his peanuts or whatever but that's about the most memorable thing about him. I know Lin likes the actor and as Lin is of Asian descent i can totally understand him wanting to keep some Asian representation in the franchise and that's fine but the series wants us to feel like Han was some amazing character, when i'm not sure he really was.

Brian is the big loss (obviously), he was a great character and had wonderful chemistry with his co stars.

Han is actually one of my favorite characters. I remember watching Tokyo Drift the first time and being worried the whole film something would happen to him because I liked him so much, and then just when I thought he was in the clear--BOOM! I was delighted to find out he came back in the next few films, then sitting through his death again at the end of Furious 6 (the first one I saw in the theater) stung a lot. So personally, yeah, I'm thrilled -- and utterly stunned, of course -- that he's back again. I'm looking forward to it.

That's cool, but why? What's so great about his character? He just stands around eating nuts and showing very little emotion.

Is it because he's presented as being "cool"? Is that why some like him?

Funny, when I met that actor years ago at a Wizard Convention, he told me he was 100% dead and never coming back.
