Sorry to hear you didn't care for the DC but it's great to see someone else being honest about the blu ray transfer though ! I've watched the DC BD 3 times now and it looks absolutely fabulous.

That’s because Blu-ray is still a great format and it ain’t all about pixels!

Does the UHD package contain the DC bluray only? No TC on BD inside?
Thanks

The UHD edition comes with the Theatrical on UHD, and the Director's Cut on Blu ray, and only the Director's Cut on Blu ray. Been stated a couple times actually.

Watched the Director's Cut tonight.

I could take it or leave it. There were a couple of cool moments that I think could have stayed:
[Show spoiler]loved the exchange between Crow Daddy and Abra's father: "Compliments to the chef" or something to that extent.

We also got to see a little bit more of Alex Essoe's Wendy, who is both easier on the eyes than Shelly Duvall, as well as providing a better performance as well.

The UHD compression on the Vudu stream wasn't bad, but still wished we'd have gotten the DC on disc from the start. But I'll live.

As someone else mentioned, this is very much like the 'Blade Runner 2049' of 2019. I don't think this film is quite that good. But this movie could have been an absolute disaster, and probably didn't have any business being as good as it is, while perfectly complimenting both Kubrick's film and King's books simultaneously.

I don’t like the fact that there are no special features on the non-4k disc.

And I don’t like the fact in 2020, such a long film has no “resume playback” option.

...I don’t like it one bit.

I think it bites too hard out of Kubrick's film in a way that BF2049 never did. I was impressed that it turned out to be a decent flick but it was too heavy-handed with the references. It actually reminded me more out Halloween 2018 in that respect. The call backs took me out of the movie, unlike BR2049 where I felt that the references to the original served to deepen the mythos.

Interesting.

Even though I didn't read 'Doctor Sleep', when I looked up the differences between the film and book, the book still had callbacks to King's 'Shining' novel as well.

I don't think this is anything like 'Halloween 2018', as that felt like it was attempting to go 'The Force Awakens' route with that series.

While I get that the criticism in terms how much time may be spent on Flanagan tying Kubrick's film to King's novel, I still think there's more than enough there to let this film occupy its own space between the two.

I also think the casting choices and acting all around, as well as the direction and visuals, are just too damn good to just call the film 'solid'.

Plus, I also admitted this is still a couple notches below 'BR2049'. But considering this film had similar expectation to live up to, I felt that this film and what Flanagan accomplished, allowed it to acquit itself very nicely.

Has anyone here from Canada redeemed the digital code? I was really hoping that it would redeem in 4K for the Director's Cut, but the only option for us seems to be Google Play and I don't think any digital codes ever redeem in 4K... Has anyone tried it? Everything that allows me to redeem in iTunes always provides 4K access, but Google Play rarely (if ever?) does. Any fellow Canadians tried it out yet?

Of course the book heavily referenced The Shining--it was a direct sequel. But the types of callbacks I'm talking about in the movie are very specific to the medium and don't really have anything to do with the source material. I just think the movie went out of its way to wink at the audience a bit too much and it wasn't to the film's benefit.

I didn't see it that way.

To me it felt like it was just trying to bridge a gap between Kubrick's vision, and how it conflicted with King, and King's novels.

It's minor in the grand scheme of things, as the film works best when it's centered around Abra, Rose, and Danny.

Which the majority of the film is.

I think the director took on and created n accomplished film with a very difficult task—the callbacks were logical and made sense especially given that this was both an adaption of the novel and a call back to Kubrick’s film.

I agree that he did a good job given the task. But I still think things like the recreation of Ullman's office, the confrontation on the stairs, and the ballroom scenes worked against the movie and needlessly made it less of its own film. To me they weren't logical elements of the story at all and brought me out of it in ways I didn't experience while reading the book.

Having only seen the original Kubrick film (never read the books), I'm not even sure the Overlook Hotel should have been brought back at all. I thought the film was good overall, however.

The 4K PQ and Atmos mix were absolutely stellar.

Why is the Director's Cut only on Blu-Ray and not the 4k?
Does any country have the Director's Cut on 4k?

What's the time difference between the two?

I haven't seen it yet.
What's the preferred/better version?

Extended is 30 minutes longer. Most people seem to prefer it? I vastly prefer the theatrical cut. Just finished the UHD by the way and it really looks nice, and sounds even better. Definitely the best modern King adaptation on UHD.

Director's Cut is 4K on digital only. I can see it coming to 4K in the future though if this becomes a cult classic type of thing.
