For once, the Academy picked the movie with the objectively great reviews.

As much as I appreciated Parasite even more upon a second viewing, there's simply no way I can back away from Tarantino's film. But I must say that if I were stuck on a desert island, and the only films I could watch were Parasite, Once Upon a Time in ... Hollywood, Marriage Story, Ford v Ferrari, and The Irishman -- while I'm sure eventually I might get tired of the limited selection, I'd be pretty darned happy for a good long while.

That's a good one; they drop you on a desert island in the middle of a lost ocean and with only one film of your choice out of the nine nominated 2020 Academy Award's movies for Best Picture. Which one would that be...one that you can rewatch few thousands times and without getting bored?

Think ...

I don't need to think. For me, it would be Tarantino. That film has the most to dine on, the most references and cinematic puns. And I could watch those performances forever. Plus, it's just a beautifully constructed snapshot of a specific place at a specific time. Well, of Quentin's vision of it, anyways.

If that’s the criteria, then Ford v Ferrari. Followed closely by OUATIH and Jojo Rabbit, in that order.

I agree; I could rewatch the ending a thousand times without blinking.

Some scenes in Ford v Ferrari are worthy of multiple replays, with a decent surround sound rig.

Jojo Rabbit, it's scary good @ times, but less scary good than OUATIH.

* For me it would be ... that's a tough one.
The Irishman is 3.5 hours...so there's time value here for a deserted island, but the story is fabricated and I would get tired of mob's activities after a while.
But I love the production values and all the actors and the class act direction.

Parasite would be the less depressing one for me on that lonely island, so it would cheer me up. That would be an excellent choice.

1917 would feel too depressing, I'd skip it. Same for Joker, Marriage Story, Little Women.

Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood would be another fun choice; the humor is great so that would cheer me up too.

It has to be a good cheering up flick; so it's between Parasite and OUATIH.
@ the end I would pick the later. That's me, and without looking @ you kiddo (subtitles).

Indeed. I enjoy "Parasite" immensely. But it was number 5 on my top ten last year. After the dust settles, I don't think it will remain the sensation it first seemed to be to a lot of people.

I don't want to say 'overrated' because it isn't, it deserves a lot of praise. But I do think people are praising it in a way and with an enthusiasm that won't last.

I personally still think after all this dies out and a lot of time passes, that for film buffs and historians down the line that "The Irishman" will have the longest shelf life.

ASMR, whispers for can's (headphones) listening, I just don't know for how long the rage will continue that trend in Pop music business.
I prefer female Opera singers myself, sopranos and tenors; they sound much more solid without requiring a pair of cans.
Is she famous for bringing emo back or something? Everything I hear about her has to do with "depressing" or "break up".

I just don't know, I can't hear what she's whispering.
I need to listen to her tunes with a pair of cans or with subtitles.

Anyway, she said that the Hollywood film actors (stars) are not "her people".

Quote:
Eilish also said the experience was "so scary" because it was a different crowd than she was used to.

"It was also, like, the Oscars is not my people," she said. "I'm not used to that. At least the Grammys wasn't as scary because it was, like, artists, and it felt like my people."

"I knew a lot of them already and I'd met them and they knew of me — but, like, the Oscars, I'm like, 'These are movie stars.'"

To be fair, other non-Hollywood performers/presenters/whatever have made similar comments in the past.

A lot of people have made all kind of disconnection comments @ the Oscars over its history.
Billie's just a kid, turned 18 recently. She doesn't hang @ the Oscars...like John Williams, Martin Scorsese, Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, Barbra Streisand, Jane Fonda, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, ...

She was singing because Madonna was probably busy and not many kids win five Grammys nowadays.
It proves that Grammys don't mean much really; it's a popular contest as to who's the most POPular and had most number of views with kids today. ...The new trend...ASMR whispering.

I'd rather go blind ...

Yeah, also one of the most overrated film makers ever. Tarantino sucks. He’s a juvenile amateur. Go away.

So can anyone explain to me the purpose of the International award if international pictures are looked at in all categories? I previously thought that this was an awards show just for American films primarily

And what would that mean? Don't answer that. Are you interested in vilifying members or discussing movies...Oscars? Also it takes a stalker (very bad dude) to thank your post...a bully.

Get a grip and stick with the script...2020 Oscars.

It's an interesting subject and I'm no expert on the Academy Awards rules.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List...language_films

https://www.vox.com/culture/2020/2/4...rules-language

All I know is that for 2020 Best Picture there were nine features films nominated this year, including Parasite. Last year 2019 for Best Picture, Roma was nominated.

And for Best Picture they have a special system different than the other 23 films/documentaries categories. All the other categories have five nominations.

But for Best Picture you never can predict the winner, and for the last several past years we had many surprises.
_____

Before 2009 and for many years there were five nominations for Best Picture (Oscars). Starting in 2009 and till 2020 it varies from 10 to 9 and 8 nominations.

US films are allowed in other countries' awards such as the BAFTA. Therefore we should allow international films in the other categories, and we do. It just happens that international films rarely pop up outside of the Foreign Language and animated categories. Roma and Parasite are most recent exceptions.
