I'm not really fond of the Showa Gamera films, but the later Showa films definitely have a lot of wacky charm if one has the right mindset for it. It's actually been a while since I saw any of them (besides MST3K versions), so I'm looking forward to the chance at seeing them again, presumably in better quality than available before. |

I actually quite like Gamera vs. Barugon, but I do agree with you about the other films. (Gamera The Brave was such a disappointment to me)

I'm watching 60+ kaiju films this year, the majority for the first time. I've seen all the Gameras except for The Brave and there are only 3 that I wouldn't recommend. There are some crazy monsters and outlandish gore in the Showa Era. And as others have said, the Heisei trilogy is just fantastic.

Here's a better image of the cover from August Ragone's Twitter. It's still a busy cover, but I like the details of the Gyaos swarm in the background and the Showa monsters in the stone.

It's more "comic book" than I originally expected (makes sense given it's Matt Frank, though, and especially with the heavy emphasis on comic books in the limited edition), but I dig the art. |

While it may not be in scale, the discs in comparison with the box do make it look like it'll be about that size.

As far as I know, Gamera Vs. Baragon, Gamera Vs. Viras, and Gamera Vs. Guiron are the only films who AIP cuts differ from the original Japanese counterparts in terms of length. In other words, those cuts need to be represented in the set if all the dubs want to be included. Of course, Gamera Vs. Viras only difference is the flashback sequence and 3 versions of that exists: -The Original Japanese Version (short montage) -The English International Version (showcases Gamera's fight with Barugon and Gyaos) -The US AIP Version (longer version of the English International Version with more of Gamera's fight with Gyaos). |
