You monster.

I'm not really fond of the Showa Gamera films, but the later Showa films definitely have a lot of wacky charm if one has the right mindset for it. It's actually been a while since I saw any of them (besides MST3K versions), so I'm looking forward to the chance at seeing them again, presumably in better quality than available before.

Well okay... all of the Gamera movies are better than Godzilla's anime trilogy.
I actually quite like Gamera vs. Barugon, but I do agree with you about the other films. (Gamera The Brave was such a disappointment to me)

I'm watching 60+ kaiju films this year, the majority for the first time. I've seen all the Gameras except for The Brave and there are only 3 that I wouldn't recommend. There are some crazy monsters and outlandish gore in the Showa Era. And as others have said, the Heisei trilogy is just fantastic.

Here's a better image of the cover from August Ragone's Twitter. It's still a busy cover, but I like the details of the Gyaos swarm in the background and the Showa monsters in the stone.

Not horrible art per se, but it just doesn’t really look much like Gamera; the head doesn’t look like either the Showa or Heisei Gamera. That said, it’s definitely better than Criterion’s Godzilla art.

I think it's very recognizable as a stylized '99 Gamera.

It's more "comic book" than I originally expected (makes sense given it's Matt Frank, though, and especially with the heavy emphasis on comic books in the limited edition), but I dig the art.

Yeah, I like the cover art. Can't wait to own this, but just wondering how big the box will be. Just wondering how creative I'm going to have to be when it comes to placing it somewhere.

I’m hoping when they said “large format” that it would be possibly the size of a trade paperback to accommodate for the comic books. Very large but not as big as the criterion Godzilla.

I need this to go on a half price sale for me to buy it-I have the 3 MC sets, and still have to watch all of the original films.

The only one I really like is Barugon because it is the only one that takes itself seriously.

While it may not be in scale, the discs in comparison with the box do make it look like it'll be about that size.

Hell, there are even movies I hated when I was younger that I am watching now and am just now noticing their brilliance.

sorry can't agree. while many of the Showa era Gamera films aren't great i'd certainly rather watch most of them over Son Of Godzilla and certainly Godzilla's Revenge. i would definitely take the first 3 over Godzilla VS The Sea Monster as well. i was very disappointed with The Brave and only have the DVD fro that one

Wonder if Gamera vs. Guiron will have the Sandy Frank American dub.

I actually commented to Arrow on Facebook about that along with the other US dubs. Awaiting response.

As far as I know, Gamera Vs. Baragon, Gamera Vs. Viras, and Gamera Vs. Guiron are the only films who AIP cuts differ from the original Japanese counterparts in terms of length. In other words, those cuts need to be represented in the set if all the dubs want to be included.

Of course, Gamera Vs. Viras only difference is the flashback sequence and 3 versions of that exists:

-The Original Japanese Version (short montage)
-The English International Version (showcases Gamera's fight with Barugon and Gyaos)
-The US AIP Version (longer version of the English International Version with more of Gamera's fight with Gyaos).

I believe that the only changes for GUIRON involved the removal of some cartoonish gory monster-slicing bits, yes? Should be no problem to synch the AIP dub, it was done just fine for the Shout Factory DVD.

Just present the movies UNCUT. Dubs for shorter versions can revert to Japanese w/ subtitles for the missing bits.

Or do seamless branching with the different cuts.
