The ten Best here, pick a brand, go to their site and select Build. I would wager most of the upscale models will offer a DVD player. Have not checked but some may have BD as well.

Like with watching streamed content itself, my interest here is a casual one. It is not something that I care to research. I thought there might have been some parents among us that could share their recent vehicle buying anecdotes because nothing constitutes proof like a well told anecdote.

My parents got a new SUV last Summer. They wanted a dvd player in it for the grand kids. Every dealer they went to said they stopped offering them a couple years ago.

See? This is exactly the kind of hard nosed, deeply dug, and fact filled investigative journalism that I was seeking for this topic of monumental interest.

Henceforth, I can honestly say whenever answering this question that I read this somewhere.

While I'm not sure about the whole SUV market, I think your folks might have gotten the "we stopped doing that" because we don't have any on the lot and I don't want you to leave, because I just looked at all the major mini van players and Suburban, they all offer a Blu-ray DVD option.

Interesting.

Now I have to wonder how many customers are actually choosing this option?

They were mainly looking at small to mid size SUV. And they were told DVD players were no longer included in newer models.

I think I need to buy this blu-ray:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Waves...258172/#Review

Anyone here seen it? In its thread the packaging, price, and the digital code are the main things being discussed; go figure.

It has been my experience only the upscale models offer video and video normally comes as part of a package. My 2016 Nissan Rogue SL (top of the line) did not offer video nor does the 2020 model. Nissan does have several vehicle lines that offers video.

IIRC, none are allowed to have video that is viewable by the vehicle operator and I agree with that. I do dislike that the passenger can not search for items on the vehicle GPS while the vehicle is in motion. At least I can plan trips on the PC and download the data to the vehicle GPS via USB. The new Chryslers have a feature where you find a way point on your mobile device then send to the vehicle GPS. I have a Garmin DriveSmart 65 and it has this feature.

My mum bought an FJ Cruiser within the last year or so, I believe. I have only briefly peered inside the vehicle, but it apparently plays DVDs (I think the disc reader is the same as the CD player, so you can't, theoretically, have a CD and DVD running at the same time).

Being a more recent model, I asked if it had a Blu-ray player (as I do recall reading an article about a vehicle that contained an in-car Blu-ray player at some point), but she couldn't give me a definitive response as it's all the same to my folks, which reminds me that I ought to check it out sometime.

In-car DVD players are still readily available at stores, though I have never seen a Blu-ray equivalent, nor have I seen a portable Blu-ray player in person (though I would love one for my daily commute).

Thanks gang. Not too much is going on with me. Still no internet or furniture at my place. I’m auctioning off a large collectibles collection and splitting it with my ex wife. Our divorce will be final in the early part of April. I watch more of the supplementals on DVD and BD’s now since I don’t have internet. Anyway. I thought I’d pop in and say hey. Back to lurking.

I was listening to a radio interview about climate change and the guy reckons we can’t have a consumerist society if we are to achieve a 100% carbon neutral Green society by 2050. Technology would be hit by that as would the economy.

It’s going to be a very very different world in 20-30 years.

Will there even be a future for Home entertainment.

Of course there will be a future. Home entertainment has been around for a long time. Long before television. I can guess that no one here (including myself) would remember when families gathered in the living room to listen to radio broadcasts of there favorite serials.

The question is . . . in what form will HE be? Probably not much different than it is today.

Not if people are guzzling electricity at home all the time. Also, if we don’t live in a consumerist society, that could throw up many issues with how we spend our spare time.

I’m off the bridge if we can’t enjoy HT.

Hopefully, it won’t ever pass.

Why do you buy into every alarmist story that you see, hear, or read? 2050 is 30 years away and if today's headlines are any indicator the coronavirus will have killed most of us off long before that. The news is overrun with sensationalist fear mongering stories. Keeping people constantly scared is intentional as it benefits certain parts of our society. Fear often drives even more consumerism.

Human behavior is not going to radically change. People will keep buying and using stuff as they always have. We have the technology to generate clean renewable power and when our collective will to adopt it on a larger scale is strong enough, we will do so long before we will ever stop shopping for more everything.

In the meantime, we have a 20 year gap where people won’t fit their homes with better insulation and renewable energy. It’s too expensive and the government have stopped subsidies for solar panels. What happens within that time?

By the way, it was a scientist who made those comments, you put a lot of faith in their findings.

New TV technologies will reduce electricity usage. Just like it happened for refrigerators and hot water heaters (re: tankless).

More states (and countries) are authorizing new green energy systems like wind power.

For as long as anyone can remember, we go to work then come home and relax. Yes there might be a surge of working at home but it will never replace the office/factory/etc.

Many here forget that the TV can be used for more than watching movies or TV shows. News, sports, shopping etc.

They will continue to live and enjoy their lives and you should do the same. Stop scaring yourself half to death. I have been told that one thing or another would destroy the world since I was in fourth grade and that was 48 years ago. Not only am I, and the world, still here, my standard of living is the best that it has ever been. Yours probably is, too.

I have no idea who said what as you provided no link to this story that you referenced. A scientologist could have been its author for all I know.

Does anyone here rip/compress their own discs and watch that way versus watching the disc or digital streaming exclusively?
