The death of the rather unpleasant assistant to Bryce Howard in Jurassic World. -- both because it shocked the audience (Anyone might die!) and, I think, served a story function. Laugh at this theory if you will (ba-ha-ha-ha-ha) but in all seriousness, I always thought that her death externalizesd Bryce's character arc in the story. Bryce's character goes from cold, business-oriented automaton incapable of forming meaningful human interactions to someone who learns to care deeply -- about her nephews -- and is ultimately ready to participate in loving relationships (with the Chris Pratt character). So I assumed that her corporate assistant represented that initial, strictly-business aspect of Bryce's character, and said character's death represents the death of that cold, unfeeling part of Bryce's character. |

Something that always raised my eyebrow is in the 95 Ghost in the Shell film, when Batou is chasing the criminal through the busy marketplace and he draws his gun and yells in a crowded public place. If he hadn't done that, and elected to instead be more discrete about it, perhaps he wouldn't have gotten a couple people killed.
Bad police work. As for as anything serious that stuck with me, the only example that I can think of right now is the opening to The Foreigner that came out a few years ago. Last edited by TheSpruceMoose; 03-07-2020 at 01:58 PM. |
