I have Knives Out and the UB9000 but haven't watched it yet. Where is it messing up? I will try my copy out.

Extremely disappointing that a $1,000 machine has issues with any 4K discs.

If a machine is stuck at the same spots and it is experienced by other users too then it’s a disc problem, not a machine’s problem.

Knives Out didn't freeze on my 820. I keep a backup OPPO 203 player for these reasons alone since I find UHD a lot more touchy than BD's.

But how is it that it works fine on other players?

every player reads differently. The fact remains is that it's repeatable on (every?) UB9000 at the same spot and only on US disc. The same title but Canadian release doesn't have that problem.

Also, if we want to discuss about problematic discs on every other players, just take Ex Machina being stuck at layer change on every player but works fine on the UB9000, Son'ys Black Hawk Down stack overflow on all Sony players but plays fine on UB9000.

Those two examples above are also authoring problems, not players' problems.

Isn't the Canadian relased botched in its own way? No Atmos? So not really an alternative.

Hmm, I didn't realize Ex Machine had issues on non Panasonics. It played fine on my old 900 Pana also.

Ex Machina worked perfectly on my OPPO 203 the last time I watched it. I think the problem there really was with a newer batch of discs as mine was an older purchase.

Yes, the new batch has mastering problem. People with Sony and Samsung definitely have problems with layer change. My Ex Machina is the new batch and can’t play past the layer change on my dad’s X700 and my buddy’s Sammy 6500 but plays fine on my 900, 820 and 9000.

It is not botched. It never came with Atmos (licensing issue).

Had zero issues with Black Hawk Down or Ex Machina on my x800 or 820. Ex Machina could've been from an older batch.

Knives is another story though.

No issues with playing the BHD extended cut on the OPPO either.

I watched ‘Knives Out’ 4K on my UB9000 last week but not in Dolby Vision. I have Dolby Vision turned off on my UB9000. Disc played fine.

I don't have Ex Machina but last year I saw Black Hawk Down complete and it worked perfectly on my UB820. For now, thank God I had no problems with any disc.

Confirming Knives Out skips only when Dolby Vision is on for my 820. When I turned DV off, it played fine and did not freeze at the 2:01.

Just got the UB820 player. been testing it out with a few disc. i put in Gemini man. when i'm on menus and stuff it show the output at 4k/24p when i get into the movie it self it should be playing at 4k/60p? as its a 60 fps movie. but the output mode says its in 1080/60p input mode says 3840x2160/60p is there a setting or something i'm missing thats down converting the 4k/60 to 1080/60?

Maybe it's a Dolby Vision issue. Does your TV set display Dolby Vision? If so,try disabling Dolby Vision on the Panasonic 820 and see if playing the HDR 10 layer outputs 2160p/60 fps.

apparently if u set the option 4k60p output to 4:2:0 it down converts the video to 1080/60p if i set it to 4:4:4 it outputs 4k/60p oddly this menu talks about 4:2:2 as well but it don't give that option in that menu

just 4/60p (4:4:4) 4K/60p (4:2:0) and off.

It's a "thing" with the HDMI signalling protocols. That's why it has to lock to 4:4:4 chroma output for 4k/60.

Knives Out 4K freezes for me at the 2:01:23 mark for a few seconds. Tried two copies of the movie. I ripped the movie off the disc and no issues playing back from my server. Playing on LG C9 w/DV

Does this player auto detect Dolby Vision or do you have to manually change it each time?
