My point is the IMAX experience can't be replaced at home. Heck, it can't even be replaced with LieMAX. |

I do get to request what I want, but it's not that simple. When I filled out the request I chose 4K, but I'm not guaranteed UHD from this studio. Every studio has their own process and people handling it.
For example, a handful of studios guarantee me UHD copies while others just guarantee a review copy, but not the format. Sometimes certain films get less UHD copies... I'm not sure how the whole thing works. |

Yeah, you don't always get what you want and it's even worse in the UK, they stopped giving out retail copies years ago and Universal even started sending out watermarked transfers which was as much use as a concrete parachute if you want to, y'know, review the image quality. Fellow reviewers would say "how come you get to do so much good stuff?" but I bought all the gear I wanted to see anyway so I just reviewed them.

And since we're dealing with a higher quality format, there is a prerequisite for equipment capable of resolving details and accuracy. I haven't seen many setups here that i feel are competent to duplicate the transparency of the source. Enough to provide an accurate assessment. I believe they do. They at the very least, list their equipment. |

I'm sure there are some good people out there on YouTube and suchlike but, as with pretty much everything else on YT and the wider clickbait-laden blogosphere, the cult of personality clouds the dissemination of actual informed opinions. Movie reviews are one thing as they're pretty much entirely subjective but when it comes to home video then there IS an actual baseline that these can be calibrated to and I'd be amazed if most "professional" reviewers got anywhere near it. Subjective opinions as to how people then react to the colour, grain, sharpness etc will always come into play, of coursh, but if they don't even have the baseline in place then I can't take them seriously. FWIW: Sony 65ZD9, OPPO 203, Panasonic 820, TV objectively calibrated using colourimeter and HCFR software for both SDR and HDR to set correct white point, greyscale, colour saturation points, gamma/PQ EOTF tracking respectively etc etc. Colourimeter has also been profiled to this specific TV using a spectro.
