The Paramount announcement only "hurts" if we let it.

Their whole plan is to attract BR supporters over to the inferior HD DVD side by forcing us to get HD DVD players to watch Paramount movies. They got Paramount my giving the studio $. What are they going to give you?

A crappy player that plays an inferior format....

Stick with BR, ride out the storm and enjoy better quality movies....

I agree. We all must stop and realize this doesn't mean anything if none of us buy any HD's.

HD-DVD didn't get any more releases they weren't already getting.

They are only trying to get BR people to buy into HD. We have control over that.

Some of these e-mails to Paramount execs may not be from us. Could be from HD-DVD supporters. Or directors voicing their displeasure.

The real way to do this, is to ask people to donate that much money and then give them a small exclusive trinket. Something that they can't go out and buy and will show their support for the format as well as give incentive for people to donate money. It would be relatively cheap to make.

If there was some kind of executive style "Blu-ray supporter" pin or something else like it, I would consider it.

Before Paramount's decision, I think being neutral has minimal impact.

NOW, being neutral has a detrimental impact on BD. So keep your HD-DVD player but don't buy any more HD-DVDs please. Thank you.

Let's end this war now!!!
Want a "Buy Warner" day?

I'm down with that. I'll go buy 100$ of their stuff today.

Exclamation Bring Paramount Back to Blu-Ray Petition

ha ha. this has been discussed to death with the Universal petition before. so to clarify: this probably won't do anything or go anywhere as it is the least persuasive form of protest - online signature gathering. HOWEVER, it is the reactionary's heaven - a place to raise of hell. and regardless of how many signatures are gathered and how much integrity each signature has, it WILL be sent to Paramount Pictures. join in on the fun:

Well here's my e-mail to her. I decided to be a nice guy about it lol.

Dear Ms. Ciccone,

I recently heard of the news that Paramount is now
going to release all of it's high definition content
on HD DVD. I must say that this is very upsetting, as
I have just purchased a PlayStation 3. I was planning
on buying many movies from Paramount on Blu-ray Disc,
Tansformers, Star Trek, and Blades of Glory just to
name a few. Your studio has a lot of content I would
love to watch in high definition; but will not be able
to since I do not, and will not, own a HD DVD player.
This decision that Paramount is taking will only help
in the short-term. I, along with all Blu-ray Disc
supporters, will not have the opportunity to buy the
great content your studio provides. There is nothing
more that I want to do than buy my favorite movies in
high definition (your studio makes most of the movies
I like) but I cannot buy it in the format I have
chosen to support, Blu-ray Disc. With that said I will
not be purchasing your content in HD DVD or DVD for
that matter. This recent decision will only serve to
prolong the format war that I simply want to end.
Blu-ray Disc has been outselling HD DVD by a nearly 2
to 1 ratio since this year began which made my choose
the Blu-ray format. I kindly urge your studio to end
this agreement with the HD DVD Promotional Group as
soon as possible, so that I may buy the content I want
as soon as possible. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Brock Burden

my letter:
Quote:
Dear Paramount employee,

I was appalled to read that yesterday (8/20/2007) your company decided to support HD-DVD exclusively. As is my understanding, you accepted a sum of $150 million to become exclusive. I find this very disturbing giving your previous advocacy of choice for the consumer. This is especially disturbing because choice was removed completely from the consumer for money from its direct competitor.

I have supported Paramount Blu-ray efforts from the moment the formats were released. I have spent a generous amount of money supporting your studio through both box office sales as well as home video products (exclusively Blu-ray since the formats inception). Because of the actions of your company, I have decided to no longer support your product. This will entail a boycott at the box office as well as no future sales in the home video market place.

I do not understand how this decision could have even been considered since current Blu-ray sales are outselling your new product of “choice” nearly 2:1. I don’t understand the decision when almost every major consumer electronics company supports Blu-ray except for those that you received money from. The list of these question can continue for a long time especially in light of the fact that the product you now exclusively support is being outperformed at every level by the competition.

While I am sure that you have received multiple emails, calls, and letters of this nature, I felt that as a consumer it was my duty and my obligation to inform you of this. Even if you could conceivably reverse the decision, I would still be hesitant to support your product due to the lack of integrity your company has displayed. As a consumer, how would I know that the product I would be purchasing will still exist at some other point? I know you are a Viacom company, so this “boycott” of mine will extend to every Viacom product I know of such as Blockbuster (even if it is wholly supporting Blu-ray), MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Bubba Gump, and a host of other products I am aware of.

Thank you for taking the time to read my letter.

Best,
xxxxxx
