In hard-hit areas, testing restricted to health care workers, hospital patients

Quote:
Health officials in New York, California and other hard-hit parts of the country are restricting coronavirus testing to health care workers and people who are hospitalized, saying the battle to contain the virus is lost and the country is moving into a new phase of the pandemic response.

As cases spike sharply in those places, they are hunkering down for an onslaught, and directing scarce resources where they are needed most to save people’s lives. Instead of encouraging broad testing of the public, they’re focused on conserving masks, ventilators, intensive care beds — and on getting still-limited tests to health care workers and the most vulnerable. The shift is further evidence that rising levels of infection and illness have begun to overwhelm the health care system.

Wait for a week or two when they start losing older members of their families.

Italy are now shutting down their factories though. Not sure if that's being reported to generally. As I don't see them shutting down those factories dedicated to food production.

What I'm dreading is the Easter break, work wise. Whenever there's a longer break from school then we get tourists down here in droves, not just summer but times like Easter too. When they descend then the store gets cleaned out of the essentials like fresh produce, meat, milk, bread. Fine, we can deal with that in itself as we're used to it - but that on top of the current buying situation which already feels like summer with bells on (so empty shelves of all of the above after just a few hours of trading, plus tinned goods and TP being stripped bare) is not going to be pretty, not going to be pretty at all.

Eh. The thought is appreciated but when/if this all dies down (so to speak) we'll go right back to being treated like the retarded underclass of the working world.

How would they get your bank info though?

Also, when did we get a check in 2008? I only remember getting the one in 2003 when W was in charge.

If there were checks in 2008, Uncle Sam owes me $300!

Let's not make everything a war on "the media." That picture could EASILY have been taken at 3am. That said, Manhattan is pretty dead right now. The other boroughs, OTOH, are different.

Some things are isolated and Manhattan is a large place. Most NYers won't go near Times Square (where that pic was taken). I'm just saying that in Union Square today, this is what it looked like.

Supposedly it's going to be based on your tax info for 2020.

I don't know about Manhattan as I haven't commuted over there for two weeks, but here in Queens, there's still quite a number of people outside roaming around.

Can't say I blame him. The media tends to be very biased and political most of the time and it gets on my nerves. I just wish they would report the facts instead of letting their opinions get in the way of things.

We'll have to wait and see when this goes through. I've seen it mentioned that it could be the 2018 and/or 2019 tax returns or a check for those that didn't have a tax return.

Geez, why is the limitation so low?? Damn, I guess I'm not getting a check.

Anyone seen Scarface 32?
I know he lives in Manhattan.
Hoping he's okay.
I lost access to my email account with his email address.

Then watch a different station. Again, blanket statements help no one.

My part of Queens had people in the park today with coolers and playing music. The streets were packed with people. People aren't caring.
