The only reason I see rich people fleeing the country would be to seek better health care. Even Cuba has better health care than the US. Apparently the only country where health care is a business first is the US. I've had co-workers from Peru who have children who've migrated to Switzerland for the health care.

Why some of America's best-known companies won't qualify for bailout money

Quote:
Already, more than half of companies that borrow through corporate bond markets aren’t eligible to get help from the Fed under its current rules.

Macy’s and Gap Inc. are furloughing most of their workers as their sales collapse — but they might not qualify for the massive backstop for companies that Congress just passed because their finances are so bad that their debt is rated as junk.

The two iconic retailers and other companies running out of cash can’t tap into the new loan program backed by the Federal Reserve because it’s only available to corporations whose debt is considered safe by credit rating firms.

I’m on 30 day medical leave. Gave my manager a letter from my oncologist explaining my conditions make me vulnerable to have severe problems if I get the virus.

Also why I've said this shutdown needs to be lessened sooner rather than later before the economic pressure hits a breaking point for millions of bitter Americans.
Considering most people will only be handing it straight back out again to pay bills, the people themselves aren't really benefiting from it in any way. It is really only to keep the economy from collapsing even further, so the only people gaining anything from it are still the wealthy.

Forget Coronavirus - the biggest threat to humanity right now are inconsiderate a**holes who don't cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze. The only way I can get around is via public transportation but if I can avoid getting on a bus I will. The capacity on city buses (at least in NJ) has been reduced and everybody is confined to the rear half so social distancing won't work. My biggest fear is being stuck on a bus with people coughing and sneezing indiscriminately. Not everybody wears masks.

I've never liked to carry much cash on me but now I try not to carry any cash at all. Every purchase I've made has been by credit or debit. Paper currency are huge carriers of germs and it's best to avoid handling it whenever possible. My Laundromat won't make change anymore so if all you have is a $20 you're SOL.

I don't get how the only new cases in China for the past week or so are supposedly people bringing it into the country and not homegrown cases. Why are these people even allowed into the country in the first place when everyone is supposed to be in lockdown? How are they even getting there? Who in their right mind would want to travel to China in the middle of a worldwide pandemic when it started there?

Utterly Ridiculous!

Chinese nationals returning to the country is the simple answer.

Also, i think something fishy is going on and China is either lying about the numbers to keep an iron grip on the situation and not cause panic or they are holding out on the world with other information about some things.

This has been a big issue even before the virus. One of my biggest pet peeves are those idiots who come into the office coughing & sneezing, when I'm 100% certain they have sick leave & can easily take off for a couple of days to recover & not expose the rest of us to their $#%@#% germs.

My state is on lockdown for another month. My work has already been paying us to have off for the last two weeks and said they will continue to pay us for two more weeks but have no plan after that. I’m guessing layoffs/furloughs are coming.

can't wait for this to be done. as if this past weekend, all of my outstanding house projects are now caught up and completed.

we insulated our whole 2nd level about 3 years ago after we had an ice dam on the roof. got all of the trim put back up finally.

finished the trim by our front door and closet after we insulated the living room.

touched up the grout work in a couple different spots in the house.

installed about a dozen new outlets and light switches throughout the house.

deep cleaned my basement. got some shelves installed in a closet in the basement to help organize it.

i'm gonna have to start on some new projects now.....here in WI we have a stay at home order until the end of April for sure. and they are projecting we won't really get hit w/the virus until mid-May.

China’s Count Excluded Infected People With No Symptoms

Quote:
Top Chinese health official says country will start reporting the number of asymptomatic carriers

China said more than 1,500 people who were infected with the new coronavirus but haven’t shown symptoms were excluded from its national tally of confirmed cases, as questions arise about its accounting of the infectious disease that burst into a world-wide pandemic.

So people don't hoard it in mass quantities so you are able to buy a pack of TP.

China's count can probably be multiplied by 5 or 10 at least if they haven't been counting asymptomatic people. A positive is a positive regardless of symptoms.

Ya. We were 'social distancing' with the neighbours last weekend - each of us on our own driveways....at least 20ft apart.

But the wind was swirling and they were coughing and I was getting nervous - of course they're both chain smokers - so is it their normal cough or the virus.

most stores have a 1 per person policy, so why the issue? have people watching self checkout and cashiers take away TP if people buy more than 1

Apparently, not everyone had followed that and from what I had heard was some stores weren't sure they could actually enforce it or take it away from customers. Probably, more so to avoid legal issues and physical altercations, but the stores would have to speak more to their rationale.

When they are handing it out they've only been handing out one pack per person.
