If no more movies get released in 2020, they should just move the next Oscars to 2022 and give awards for the best of 2020-2021

I’ve said if movie releases (doesn’t have to be blockbusters, but at least small studio films and indies) don’t get back to a regular pace by Fall, they need to strongly consider combining the eligibility of both years.

Yes, the Academy is exploring making digital only releases eligible (which the Globes have done for films planned for theaters and released instead digitally during the shut down), but I just don’t think there can be any realistic awards line up if releases are still minimal six months from now. And frankly next year will also start to get thin if this drags on with more production disruptions, so combining the two years would make perfect sense.

I agree.

Under those circumstances, they should consider not having an awards show in February of 2021, but instead maybe they could do a special where they honor the doctors and nurses, and also pay their respects to all the actors and show biz people who will have died of COVID-19 by that point (and hopefully it won't be that many)

Lorne Balfe's score.for Mission Impossible Fallout was great. Alexandre Desplat is more suited to drama I think. I don't see the problem.

Nice, Balfe is a great choice for the vibe they're going for. He also scored MI: Fallout.

Love this track

Fallout is his best work, and I hope BW's score is more THAT, than Gemini Man, Bad Boys 3 or 6 Underground (forgettable).

Balfe is a horrible composer, and his leaden score to Fallout was the worst Mission: Impossible score since Zimmer's work on M:I-2.

Pretty much. Most of the films that get nominated are non-blockbusters released in the last couple months of the year. So far the delays haven't really impacted Oscar-type films.

Where they have been affected is in the art house festivals and smaller label pick ups, which many films use to get those key November-December Oscar-bait release dates. It remains to be seen if this has a domino effect of making the Oscars too thin this year.

My guess is they go forward with the Awards if theaters are open again by late summer. You may have a slightly reduced field for the blockbuster movies, but that won't phase most award shows as to what they nominate all that much.

Zimmer's M:I-2 score kicked ass. Balfe is hit or miss. I like his Fallout score in the film. On its own it's a bit of a chore to listen to. None of the MCU films have memorable scores really aside from Silvestri's Avengers scores and Doyle's Thor score.

I thought Balfe's work on Fallout was fine, but a big step down after the very orchestral score for Rogue Nation (which has the best score of the series). Still, I'd take Balfe over someone more generic like a Henry Jackman or Harry Gregson-Williams (or yet another Michael "Stretched Too Thin" Giacchino score that sounds like he just came up with a decent theme and let his underlings compose the rest in about 20 minutes).

Zimmer's work was energetic and fun. It fits with the movie perfectly. I can't say the same for Giacchino's work. I think Elfman did a great job and Kramer was decent. Balfe did ok, nothing special.

I agree... His music for Pacific Rim: Uprising was just ugh... it didn't help an already so so movie compared to the original. Ramin Djawadi did an amazing job for the first movie and for Iron Man 1. I read some where long ago that Ramin Djawadi doesn't like to compose music for sequels he did the movie for previously. I am like ugh what a loss.

What's hard to understand? He agreed Balfe was bad and compared his work especially unfavorably to the first Pacific Rim composed by Djwadi.

It's hard to imagine someone praising the awful soundtrack to the first Pacific Rim.

The first Pacific Rim score is amazing tho, gotta say criticism for it is something more rare in my experience.

That's a pity he doesn't do sequels and seems a bit strange being that he doesn't mind composing for multiple seasons of TV shows. I never watched GoT but his score for Person of Interest is fantastic.

No matter who has BW it seems like they're gonna have longer than a composer normally would so fingers crossed they can come up with something good.
