Still, a great way to see these films for free if you get TCM.
A viewing of Seven Samurai for me. Another upcoming centennial celebration in November will be for Gene Tierney. Criterion has been generous releasing many of her films. Maybe they could look into The Razor's Edge or The Ghost And Mrs. Muir.

Personally, I don't see what Criterion could add to the existing Fox releases. "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" has a fine remaster and I wouldn't mind a remastered "The Razor's Edge" but Fox rarely allows outside restorations (I doubt that they had the film remastered before Disney put a halt to their restoration schedule considering that the Fox Blu used the DVD master).

I love Gene Tierney and The Ghost and Mrs. Muir is one of my all-time best, but the current Fox Blu-ray is very pleasurable to my eyes and ears and still available, unlike Leave Her to Heaven. If Criterion has another slot for her, I hope it's The Shanghai Gesture (1941). (Who has that film anyway?)

Just finished watching Seven Samurai. Every time I watch it I'm always amazed that almost 3.5 hours goes by so fast. I don't think there's one wasted frame in the whole film.

I hope Criterion releases another Wes Anderson film soon.

...it’s been a while.

Wes Anderson films being automatic approvals for Criterion adoption is a trend that needs to die.

For those who loved Three Fantastic Journeys by Karel Zeman set, Karel Zeman Museum released the director's The Stolen Airship / Ukradená vzducholoď (1967) for free on Vimeo with English subtitles until April 7th.

Thankfully they're some of the best selling titles in the collection and that will never happen. Dont like them? Too bad, dont buy them
I will happily be adding the rest of his work to my collection.

Yes; how dare his fans get really good releases of his movies to enjoy over and over.

And theyalso don't have to be automatic purchases.
Imagine that... buying a film you don't like!

I mean, he's directed 10 feature films to date, and they only come out theatrically every couple years, and then even longer spans between Criterion releases, so I'm not entirely sure why that should bother anyone.

I would imagine the argument being that not all of his movies warrant the criterion treatment, I'm sure some people consider criterion a label that releases essential films, pretty much every director has some duds among their work and so having every single release be a part of the line could conceivably be seen as cheapening the line. Just my two cents, obviously there will always be people that dont think certain titles belong.

Aren't there much worse filmmakers than Wes Anderson to be mad about? One may not embrace his style, but to deny he's a revered auteur among cinephiles is to let one's personal distaste cloud reality. It makes total sense for Criterion to release his filmography.

That ship sailed back in the laserdisc days when Criterion released (among other things) Blood for Dracula, Flesh for Frankenstein, The Rock, and Armageddon.

I said some people, just as some people would have no problem with those being included, some would. I was just trying to explain one possible reason someone would have a problem with Wes being automatically included

That's funny, I have very good non-Criterion releases of his films I can watch over and over...but yeah, sometimes I forget about all the sheep who need Criterion's seal of validation.

is it against site rules to discuss the Art House American Campaign or to post info about it here? I'm guessing yes, as I expected everyone here to be talking about it.
