And the PT/OT are different looking on blu ray in this set? I don't have UHD, but doesn't mean I won't ever.

I wish the films had been released with nine individual cases inside a box, like the Harry Potter release. With each SW movie having the poster art. The big book looks decent enough but it could have been better. Cardboard sleeves suck.
Yep they’re still delivering, but the emails state they cannot offer a delivery date on my current preorder that’s released Monday as they’re prioritising essential items. Meanwhile, I’ve had a Rafiki videogame controller for my niece’s birthday holder, delivered 2 days after ordering.

I’m more annoyed at Disney than anyone for making Amazon the only place to buy them here. I’ve already had to import the Pixar films from Australia and now I’m considering going for the single releases from there too.

More important issues in life at the moment, I know, but this has been going on long enough with Disney here in the UK with 4K releases. It’s about time they got their act together.

Advice not for everyone, just people who want the 4K discs. I myself do not like the style of packaging as I only like stuff with single disc hubs...the set is mediocre as art is concerned except for the outer Death Star which is cool, I hate the rest of the box and packaging...to each their own

Not sure if it's my set-up or how the film is supposed to be, but some of Sith looked like there was some black crush going on. In particular, the scene between Anakin and Padme around 41 minutes in.

No, they are at 100%, not "ultra compressed". They look virtually identical to the pngs that where captured. All post-processing (like scaling, sharpening, etc is set to off, except HDR-SDR conversion). They come out so small because there is so little detail.

Is there any way for me to share the pngs, i will gladly provide those.

I put the 4K disc in, go to the menu to check it out, then push "Play Movie", and I noticed the mild light pulsation on the screen just before the 20th Century Fox logo, during the dark transition between the Fox logo and the Lucasfilm logo, and during the dark transition between the Lucasfilm logo and the "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...." words.

When I briefly eject the 4K disc and immediately start it back up again, the above-mentioned dark transitions look normal and everything looks normal. Likewise, if I just keep playing the disc past the "A long time ago...." without ejecting it, everything looks normal after that point.

It's apparently nothing tragic, but it's just strange.

I'm still curious to see if anyone else notices this on their discs.

My 4K player and my 4K television are both up to date.

I find my TV will mildly pulse between darker shades as it transitions between menus, and dark scenes like the logo screens, title crawls, and such. I just don't recall if I've experienced this with Star Wars. However, I suspect it's a TV setting. It might help to check the dynamic contrast settings--I believe that will change the black levels as scenes change. Not sure if other things (like HDR) affect this as well.
It's basically what you are describing, a mild pulsation between darker shades, creating a mild flashing effect during the dark transitions before the main feature actually starts up. I've also seen it before in the dark transition if I choose a menu option.

My dynamic contrast option on my LG television is turned off, along with other such default options that may affect the filmmaker's intention with a movie.

As long as it goes away when I eject the disc for a split second and then replay it, then all is well. Even if it doesn't, it does not seem to affect th main feature...just the transitions between starting logos and such.

Yeah but is the image host not compressing? I know these Star Wars 4K discs are not meant to be great but I'd be shocked if they look as bad as your caps suggest.

So even if Fox were the ones releasing these existing 4K transfers on behalf of LFL I'm not sure that they would've looked a whole heck of a lot different...short of carrying out brand new 4K restorations but then that wouldn't have been Fox's call anyway.
Disney buying Star Wars and Fox might have been the worst thing to happen to video/audio and physical media enthusiasts.

No i re-downloaded some, they are identical in size. The hoster seems to accept pngs below 10mb. So i choose 3 randoms ones, that were below 10mb, please see for yourself:

Exactly my point. Something extra is happening in those screenshots. I've been taking screenshots regularly since 2009 and those look beyond compressed much like a DVD.

Yep, those look noticeably better than your initial jpegs. I use Post Image for my screen capture pngs because they don't use any additional compression.

Although not perfect, these appear to be much better than the 2011 release, but I was talking more from the standpoint of Disney's processing techniques and limited physical media releases.

What's the good word on the new Skywalker Saga box set 4K transfer of The Last Jedi?

Is it noticeably superior to the 2018 4K release (which earned five stars on the site for being a reference quality disc)?

I own the individual 4K releases of all of these movies, along with the 4K UHD Best Buy steelbooks of The Last Jedi and Solo: A Star Wars Story. If nothing has improved, then I'm just going to stick with the steelbooks of those two (although they look different when on the shelf by the new individual sets of the others) when the individual editions of these two are inevitably released.

Still, i think the effects of the jpeg compression are negligible:
JPEG vs. PNG:
https://slow.pics/c/SM2Q8BCG

Lossless is better, but it does not change the fact that these look 'atrocious' regarding the PQ.

Bought the OT Tuesday and wrapped up Jedi last night. I don't think any of the three films transfers are better or worse then the other as they all share the same faults at some point through each presentation. Like most Lowery joints they filtered off the high ends but there's enough detail coming through without being a total wax job. No grain to really speak of. Sharpening creeps up in all of them. If you know where to look for it you'll see it however it's not edge Halo galore either.

What actually bothered me and I haven't seen it discussed ornif it has not much is the posterization going on. Especially in Empire and Jedi. It comes across as SC style where you get blobs of flat Grey's from incorrect LUTs or whatever the hell causes it. Then you get small amounts of macro blocking in those flat areas. The worse offending scene to me was Luke's reveal to Leia about being brother and sister in Jedi. Watch Leias hair.

Overall passable but disappointing.

This may be true, but it’s not like Lucasfilm has been blessing the fans with excellent home video releases the past 20 years. There’s always been SOMETHING wrong with Star Wars releases. Disney isn’t helping, and I’m not saying just because every release has sucked in some way that that’s how it should always be, but I blame Lucasfilm for cutting corners on every release.

Yes the included Blu-rays with the UHDs are based off the newer transfers so are superior to the 2011 Blu-rays.

I believe it was posted elsewhere the DV version runs around 80mbps and higher where as the HDR version in the new set runs around 50. JMO but I prefer DV on my 4K discs.
