Default Are there any hidden gems on Shudder?

Just signed up for a free trial and a large percentage of movies are ones I've never heard of. Can you guys recommend a few please? Help me weed out the garbage.

Besides the classics, I thought Haunt was a surprisingly good slasher/haunted house film. White God, VHS2, and Revenge are also excellent. The first Hell House really got under my skin.

If you haven't seen One Cut of the Dead yet, that should be your top priority.

Just don't stop watching when the credits roll at about 37 minutes into it. It's not over.

If you enjoy documentaries, their new series “Cursed Films” explores horror films with troubled production or bizarre events tied to members of the cast and crew. The first episode is all about what happened during filming “The Exorcist” and has a new interview with Linda Blair.

“Horror Noire” is a GREAT documentary covering African-American horror and Blacksploitation cinema.

The Eli Roth History of Horror series is pretty great also.

Dive into the Foreign/International section. There's several. I'll have to compile a list so I will update this post.

I so agree. Shudder is releasing it on bluray in May. I'll definitely be picking it up.

Part love story and part cult film, this beast has trippy visuals, rewarding gore, and a surprisingly good balance between Nic Cage's actual acting abilities as well as buying into his meme status.

It really depends on what kind of movies you're into.

As a slasher fan, I really dug Lake Bodom. It's sort of low-budget and slight, but Ruin Me is a fun slasher too.

I also loved Witch In The Window, but it's very mellow and character driven. Gets under the skin though.

I agree with the recommendations for Tigers Are Not Afraid, however I wouldn't go in expecting an outright horror film. It reminded me a lot of The Devil's Backbone.

Those recs are only from their exclusives. There's plenty more on there to sift through, but again, it's hard to recommend titles when we don't know what kind of movies you like.

I'll watch just about anything, just trying to maximize my trial and not waste my time. Thanks for your suggestions.

The Amusement Park is interesting. Apparently it was a commissioned film that Romero directed as basically a PSA on elder abuse. But he made it way darker than people were expecting and so it kind of sat shelved for decades. It's like a trippy Twilight Zone episode and I had to watch it twice to really get a good sense of it. There are a lot of weird, surreal situations like
[Show spoiler]senior citizens having to take an eye exam before getting on a bumper car ride and then as soon as they hit another bumper car, there's immediately a police offer on the scene to take an accident report, etc.
Kind of one of those 'what did I just watch?" films. I may need to give it more watches in the future since it's under 1 hour long.
