No, I don't think you will see a 200 player. It doesn't make any sense for the CE's. BTW, how did 200 suddenly become the holy grail when HD-DVD has hit that price point with promotions already and didn't make a dent.

They should have a huge announcement this week that better involve a close to $200 player, getting Warner to be exclusive...or SOMETHING! ANYTHING!

I understand that Transformers and Shrek 3 aren't exactly the end of the world, but it's still 18 months ( the Xmas holidays and all next year ) that we won't see any titles on Blu Ray from Paramount. I believe Transformers sales high definition sales are going to take a punch in the gut though. The dvd is gonna sale like hotcakes in return.

I'm surprised...very surprised actually...that Blu Ray wasn't ready for this. I believe Universal knew it was going to happen. If they knew...then Blu knew! What if anything do they have up their sleeve?
This helps a little...........

I don't think its as much the 200 dollar player as it is the 150 million in "incentives".

...i'd say the paramount thing was too little too late. I think BR is STILL gonna rock, several posters (yo, Josh - you hit that point re: titles for the holiday season like a 2 dolla ho - and Bad Billy Hunt, would love to see some smackdown on that fat punk b^&*h Harry Knowles) have already given some good ideas (conjectures, but the logic is there) on WHY this payoff was done. At the very least (to answer your question), I say BR keep doin what ya doin' - I'm buying nothing but BR till this things done. But as far as a "killing blow", yeah play M$'s game and get Uni onto neutral territory.

Not sure what answer you want? Its over with paramount for the next 1.5 years at least. Just hope MS doesn't manage to pull the same deal with Warner.

I can tell you what I'm going to do about it.. . .

70" BRAVIA® XBR® series SXRD™ Rear Projection HDTV when it ships.
STR-DA5300ES when it ships.
Denon DVD-2500BTCI when it ships.
Macbook Pro to replace my Vista machine, on order.

In the mean time, I'll be buying every BD that remotely interests me and avoiding anything Microsoft or Paramount.

Not the answer, but if you don't think it helps.................well then I don't really know what to tell you. I don't feel the need to panic with POTC 3, the Spiderman trilogy, the Die Hard flicks, the Pixar films, and the new Fantastic Four film coming out. The Paramount deal sucks big time, but I would stop short at calling it an "ordeal".

Actually, I was tempted to buy an HD DVD player, open it up and take a huge smelly shit in it and then send it back with a letter directed to Toshiba about what I think of their product and format.

The only thing that makes sense is that some monies were paid under the table to top execs. at Viacom/Paramount. Paramount stood to make more than $150 million off of blu-ray sales of Transformers and Shrek 3, let alone all of their other offerings. This deal shafted the co., the stockholders, and blu-ray customers.
This is just like George W. taking just under $900,000 from the pharmacuetical companies to pass legislation that ended up raising medical costs for senior citizens. He even had the audacity to sign the bill with press coverage and elderly people all around who were told that it was to help lower their costs.

I think Sony's own Playstation forum is the place to start. I haven't been there in a week or so. Maybe this is already being done.

Sending a snail mail letter to Sony with ideas and suggestions is another good idea.

Probably already mentioned in other threads but I'm slow and just noticed it: New stickers on the BDs I bought today that say something like, "I play on your PS3". The TV ads for the Sony movie releases say they play on PS3.

you have to put it into perspective. 150M might not sound like a lot, but if I am not mistaking less then 3M HDOMs have sold all together. This is for a year and a half of HD disks on the market for both formats, what do you think Paramount’s profits from HD sales were? Even if one assumes much greater growth (and with this news it most likely won't happen) there would be no way their profit would be that high.
