New Mexico TV stations to broadcast classes for K-5 students

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — With New Mexico schools shut down for the rest of the school year because of the coronavirus outbreak, three public television stations on Monday will begin broadcasting class lessons for home learning for students in grades K-5.

The participating Public Broadcasting Service stations are KENW-TV at Eastern New Mexico University’s Portales campus, KNME-TV at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, and KRWG-TV at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.

The Albuquerque school district will provide four hours of instruction each weekday morning, which KENW called “an ambitious and vital new broadcast initiative.”

How long do you think everyone, other first responders, should have to stay locked in their homes?

I have food, thank you, but it won't last forever. Most people will not have enough food to last months, let alone weeks. And if you plan on giving everyone the chance to "stock up" prior to what you're suggesting, there won't be enough food available to meet that demand and expect empty shelves like you saw several weeks ago. The supply chain isn't setup to support such a mass run on the stores.

And don't expect those shelves to be restocked if only first responders could leave their home. If people couldn't stock up, then what do you expect them to do? What about critical infrastructure such utilities (water, gas, electricity)? Should all those people stay locked in their homes too?

Do you really think the majority of people in a city such as NYC have a ton of supplies or the room for them?

Well in that case you better buy a ton of body bags! If you can't first flatten the curve then decrease it, it will be a loooong time before we ever get a chance to go back to normal.

Fauci says coronavirus deaths will keep rising as new cases stabilize

Washington — Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, warned Sunday that the coming week is going to be "bad" as the death toll from the coronavirus pandemic continues to rise in the U.S., even as the number of new cases is beginning to stabilize in certain areas.

"Even though you're getting really improvement in that the number of new cases are starting to flatten, the deaths will lag by one or two weeks or more, so we need to be prepared that even though it's clear that mitigation is working, we're still going to see that tail-off of deaths," Fauci said on "Face the Nation." "So the first thing we want to look for is to see on a daily basis are the number of new cases starting to stabilize?"

I have a feeling that the number of new cases are actually going down despite what the tests say. The latest data from Gov. Cuomo shows that the number of new people being admitted into the hospitals has gone down the past few days in NY despite the confirmed cases going up significantly. So, that's a good sign.

I think data shows that we're either at the Apex or pretty close to it, but only time will confirm that. I think we're going to get through this. I'm starting to have some hope.

I switched to getting online groceries a couple weeks back. Also stocked up on "backup" food like powdered milk, protein powder, bulk of ramen, pasta, grains, TVP, etc.... if I couldn't get fresh groceries. Personally I don't have any reason in the foreseeable future to leave my apt.

I have a doctors appointment on the 20th. I have more than enough food to last till then. I see no reason for me to leave my apt. until the 20th.

Yea I know it sucks being cooped up at home. I just can't take a chance being in that high risk percentile.

Maybe I missed it, but did someone say this theoretical mass quarantine would only be for a few weeks? Sorry, but I don't believe the intended effect would be achieved with only a few weeks time.

WASHINGTON - Dr. Anthony Fauci says there a very good chance the new coronavirus "will assume a seasonal nature" because it is unlikely to be under control globally.

Fauci is director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. He says the virus is unlikely to be completely eradicated from the planet this year. That means the U.S. could see the "beginning of a resurgence" during the next flu season.

Fauci says the prospect of a resurgence is the reason the U.S. is working so hard to get its preparedness "better than it was." He says that includes working to develop a vaccine and conducting clinical trials on therapeutic interventions.

Fauci also says states that don't have stay-at-home orders are not putting the rest of the country at risk as much as they are putting themselves at risk.

Fauci spoke on CBS's "Face the Nation."

Did a Sam’s Club run today wearing a bandana. They were out of wipes for the carts. They had plenty of meat so I picked up some lamb. Still no TP or paper towels (won’t even mention hand sanitizer) but they had tissues so I grabbed a case.

It seemed like most of the shoppers had masks on or bandanas which means many are heeding the advice of the government. Unlike Walmart, Sam’s has yet to implement a customer in-store limit. I think it’s a great idea to keep the aisles cleared and to maintain the 6ft rule. It’s definitely a different world out there but I get what I need and get the heck home.

Our population at the time was just over 100M and 675,000 Americans died. We are now a country of 327M. We do not want a repeat of those statistics. There is only one way to beat a pandemic without a vaccine: Shelter-In-Place. You have to stop human contact. Right now it's voluntary. Don't be surprised if after the death toll goes past 50,000 that S-I-P becomes a mandatory quarantine. That means NO ONE other than first responders can leave their home for ANY reason unless it's a medical emergency.

Pandemics don't last for a few months. They go for a year or more especially those with no anti-viralants or vaccine. Every country (S. Korea & China) that first closed, flattened their curve then reopened has seen a 2nd wave of infections.

I'm not trying to scare anyone nor am I the prophet of Doom. I am just trying to get you to understand the severity of the situation and what it takes to beat this.

Every time you step out of your home you run the risk of becoming infected. Droplets of CV-19 can be carried by the wind for miles. Someone who is already infected and hasn't shown any symptoms is walking 2 miles away, they sneeze and don't cover their face, the droplets are now in the wind. And the wind is headed right for you on your lonely walk at night! And unless you are wearing a fitted N95 mask, you are in danger of becoming infected.

It's going to be in the mid 70s all week here in ABQ, NM. I have a small covered porch right off my bedroom. I would love to go out on it and get some fresh air. But I won't because I value my life more than my desire for such. I hope you do the same.

The 1918-20 Spanish Flu (pandemic) lasted three full years. Globally (the population @ that time was approximately 1.6/1.7 billion and it wiped out globally between 50 and 100 million people. Nobody knows the exact number; minimum 17-20 million, but realistically 50-100 million.

Today, just over 100 years later, with all the advanced knowledge and technologies, a population of 7.8 billion (global), we are fighting over masks. Our doctors and nurses on the front lines don't have enough, incredible!

Should I wear one or not? If you have one why not, if you don't what can you do.
And, one is not enough. And doctors and nurses take priorities over say, stock traders and hedge fund managers.

Masks on eBay selling for 20-30 times their actual cost? Put those people in jail, get their masks and give them to doctors and nurses.
3M factories? It's a zoo.

Who makes the most masks in the world (50%)? China.
We need them but they aren't allow to export them.
That's another zoo.

This COVID-19 Pandemic is a Mickey mouse and Batman zoo. ...Way of speech to say that it's taken by many people as a farce, an entertainment cartoon character.
In reality it's a real nightmare.

We as an advanced society, high class people, super advanced HDR OLED 4K and all, can't even get enough masks costing roughly a buck each! ...Much less to manufacture them.
Canada sent the raw material to make them to the USA. ...It's from Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, in my own backyard. And we can't even get some (very minuscule percentage) shipped to us!

Like I said, we live in a pandemonium zoo.
