Doubt it. Once things get back to normal no matter how long it takes Dec 2020. I seriously doubt that things will be as bleak as people are making them out to be. At least in regards to things normalizing again.

Also once we have a viable vaccine that will help as well.

For mental health, it's a chance to be somewhere besides home, enjoy fresh air, scenery, and distract yourself with music or podcasts. It's also a good idea to get your vehicle up and running every now and then if you have to hunker down for several months.

But on the flip side joyriding is non-essential recreation. Intoanewlife brought up an excellent point I hadn't considered. It's always possible one could end up in an accident, and that sets off a chain of events that could involve any number of individuals and efforts, potentially using scarce resources for a person who "was bored" or "just felt like driving."

So yea...everything blows
If you let one person do it, then everyone starts doing it. Like buying toilet paper. Lol

The thing is, I don't see things ever becoming normal again until a vaccine is available. Think about it, let's say the number of cases go down significantly in May, so we re-open the economy and everyone goes out, goes to work, and the like. So now that everyone out and about, those few people that still have the virus will spread it again. And then we'll be back to square one.

The thing is, this virus is so highly contagious and not even the warm, humid weather can get rid of it. So it can never completely go away and will keep on spreading. It's not until you vaccinate people when you can finally put a stop to the spread.

Dear mods

this post isn't intended to delve into politics per se but is just to outline a potential direct result of the coronavirus, which is what this thread is all about. Ta.

Personally, I think he will be ok.
I hope he will, but it'd be just our ****ing luck that we get some political stability for the first time in years - regardless of our politics, regardless of what we think of Boris, an 80-seat win at a general election is a definitive margin and a clear mandate for the winners - and then Boris carks it, leading to Raab taking over and a potential power struggle down the line, both within the party and the opposition agitating for this "non-elected PM" to go the polls to prove he or she still has the mandate that Boris acquired.

My point being, we need all that going on during the coming months and years while the wreckage of the economy is salvaged like we need a ****ing hole in the head.

If they get a vaccine, and it's readily available, that will be a start.

However, even with a vaccine, and even if the numbers started going down, and even if businesses started resuming...there's a huge psychological hurdle that will take more than months to get over. The randomness of the virus....stories of young people with no underlying conditions getting it and dying...the possibility of the virus mutating and resisting the vaccine....that's the game changer to where you don't want to be part of some evolutionary Russian roulette today while the science community eventually figures it out tomorrow.

I think it's easier to move on when you can disqualify yourself from the eligible. It's why one of the first things we do when a celebrity dies is to check their age and circumstance of death ("Ahhh, he was 81...old enough..." "A lifelong smoker, that makes sense (and excludes me from the pool)".

This virus has every one of us eligible to potentially die from it. Think about that. That does something to your overall comfort system when you can't say for sure that it won't affect you. That will affect our personal and collective psyche for some time to come.

We won't be going back to "normal" as we knew it.

When the news broke last night he was in hospital, I knew he was probably heading for ICU, or already in it. It's just that the government was holding back information to stop the press having a field day? Why? Well a lot of people in the West like think their press is sensationalist and crazy.

Well Britain is that, but also full of conjecture. It's kind of hard to explain unless you live here. Just look at what they done to Diana though.

It was so botched how they went about it though. An hour before he's was fine, doing government business ect.

Aye, they said it was just for 'extra tests' or whatever but I Am Jack's Total Lack of Surprise that he's gone into the ICU.

More than anything else, I can't wait to never hear the phrases:

Work From Home
Social Distancing
...in these uncertain times.

The last is what bugs me more than any of them. It's like every marketing team in the country got together and figured out the lamest way to say "since we're all f****d..."

I've literally been making shielding jokes for the last month to people.

Working from home I'm afraid isn't going anywhere.

Also paraphrasing The Thick Of It like crazy.

This is certainly eerily haunting... Chapter 1 is a good read, but for a quick glance pages 30-31 provide some interesting information.

Some "journalist" for The Nation (a DC correspondent, not even his area) posted this on twitter and got ratio'ed:

Ken Klippenstein
@kenklippenstein
Boris Johnson called for a batshit plan that sought to let people get sick and could've killed millions; he bragged about coronavirus not stopping him from shaking people's hands. If you can't understand why some people are gonna find this funny, I don't know what to tell you
