Actually, those black bars are part of the movie. Whatever the signal is, the monitor displays. Bars, no bars - whatever it is. The monitor itself has the following options to pick from:

1:1
Aspect
Fill

I have left it on the default of Fill. I also have not played with it beyond that. Everything looks perfect as if I were watching it on my plasma.
