I love it when people display massive sensitivity when they are treated to a dose of the behaviour they themselves have just displayed towards someone else. Classy.
I enjoy it even more when they justify their behaviour by blaming the recepient because they have failed to cure the shortcomings of the wider world. "I was rude to you because you let different people you have never met give me a hard day. Sort them out or suck it up.' Uh huh. |

Or just one word. It's in the eye of the beholder, but I was in the wrong and that's my bad as people took it the wrong way. The one word was not meant in a curt way, but the reply to the attack was. Either way, worse things in the world. And for the record I checked Zavvi, amazon and arrow none were showing prices, then I asked for a link. |

Not a deal, but a heads-up to anyone who imports from Germany:
20th Century Fox officially stops their physical home media distribution in Germany on June 22. Retailers can order till June 19 and last shipment by Fox is June 23. Jojo Rabbit will be the last physical home media release by Fox in Germany. So if anybody still want to get some German Fox Releases, now is the time .. |

Of the 26 German blu-rays I have, 0 are from Fox. Can't say I'm entirely surprised given Disney own 20th Century Fox (and have their sights on expanding Disney+ rather than blu-ray), I wouldn't be surprised if the UK was next. The other week when HMV cleared stock of Fox releases at £3, might have just been a few titles going OOP or Disney starting similar plans for cutting/gutting Fox UK. Remove access to titles, force people toward Disney+ subscription. Might work with most, but personally if/when I subscribe it will be month to month and only to watch certain content, eg catch up on Marvel (which I've watched little of) and some of the films like 'Cool Runnings', 'Mighty Ducks' etc that are limited to the 'Disney Movie Club' in the US. |

An Affair to Remember is from £15 new on Amazon. Tora! Tora! Tora! only available as a steelbook. Titanic (1953) is £21. Fantastic Voyage £20 used. The Day the Earth Stood Still £16 plus delivery. The Thin Red Line £11.15 plus delivery. Martha Marcy May Marlene £14.99 plus delivery. Get Shorty £21 plus delivery. Capote £24.76 plus delivery. New York, New York £19.95 plus delivery. Niagra £20.94 plus delivery. M*A*S*H, Notes on a Scandal, The Diary of Anne Frank, Bus Stop currently unavailable. Another Earth, Man on Fire only available used. Even West Side Story, with the remake coming out, is £49.45 (plus delivery!) new or £5.50 plus delivery used. 2017’s Alien: Covenant is £20.69 plus delivery used! What was once the highest grossing blockbuster, Titanic, is £14.50 plus delivery. Amazon doesn’t necessarily reflect availability or prices elsewhere but it’s a good barometer to use. Not everything is at inflated prices and I expect maybe the biggest blockbusters will stick around at least for now. But with older films that haven’t stuck around as much in the public consciousness or some of the Searchlight indie titles get them as soon as possible. Looking through the UK releases, these are getting harder to come by: How Green is My Valley Vera Cruz South Pacific The Fly (1958) The Horse Soldiers The Sound of Music The Agony and the Ecstasy The Bible: In the Beginning Batman: The Movie The Thomas Crown Affair Battle of Britain Patton The Omen Silent Movie Ladyhawke Teen Wolf The Jewel of the Nile Rain Man Big 9 1/2 Weeks Mystic Pizza Marked for Death Miller’s Crossing Strictly Ballroom Home Alone II White Men Can’t Jump Mrs Doubtfire Rising Sun Kalifornia The Adventures of Priscilla Thumbelina Independence Day Chain Reaction One Fine Day L.A. Seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face, Disney don't have any outlet for FOX titles through streaming in the UK, at least not at the moment. Fingers crossed they're just gearing up for their 20th Century Pictures distribution arm of home media, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

The spanner in the works at the moment is Disney doesn't have a FOX streaming service, only a handful of titles are on Disney+ (The Simpsons, Home Alone and a few others) and D+ is quite child friendly. So unless they do start up a more adult service (which I can't see happening this year), they've basically cut off access to their FOX titles. Hopefully like you said, it may lead to a 20th Century Studios (along with Searchlight Pictures) label of some kind on home video, Jojo Rabbit will be their last release, but we have Searchlight Picture's Downhill after that, so if that does get a BD, it will be interesting to see who distributes it. But with Disney in a bit of a mess financially, cutting out a huge catalogue for sale would seem silly, when all they have to do is basically print off some new covers. |

That only really works with major titles or films that have remakes or sequels coming out. For bread and butter titles it can be the kiss of death - and even for some classics: a major reason that Stan and Ollie found it so hard to find an audience in the USA and many territories was because their films had been out of circulation on TV and home video for so long due to legal problems that they skipped a couple of generations who never saw them while they were growing up and for whom recreating classic routines from films they never saw or playing on their iconic personas meant nothing to them.

I don't see Disney spending any time and more importantly money on re-issuing catalogue titles to physical media, that wouldn't be a problem if they were prepared to do deals with independent labels but that does not appear to be the way they are going.
