This is a fascinating story. I was able to attend a presentation by David Grann a couple of years ago and it was wonderful. This should make a terrific movie with the creative talent involved!

What a shame that it took 25 years for Scorsese and De Niro to work together again. Glad to see them back at it.

I wonder who Scorsese loves more De Niro or DiCaprio? It's been mostly collaborations with DiCaprio over the last 20 years since 2000, but the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's were with De Niro, and The Irishman from 2019 was the first full-feature film they'd worked on for 24 years the last before that being Casino way back in 1995.

So to have Scorsese with both his favorites together in the one movie is interesting, but again who does he prefer?

I don't know why it has to come down to preferring one over the other. I would be surprised if Scorsese even thought that way.

Maybe de-aging De Niro again?

Well, De Niro got older and most of the movies that get made these days are about younger men. DiCaprio filled that role for Scorsese, and it helps that DiCaprio is a fairly bankable star. It seems Scorsese and De Niro probably have a closer relationship. They have similar backgrounds and have been friends and collaborators for decades.

Yeah, I'm not buying that. Even $150 million would seem insane for this.

I don't know.

13 years ago, a movie cost $20M ... and it was called The Nanny Diaries.

And Scarlett was the only "big" name in the whole movie.

While on paper, this movie seems like it's going to be a great piece of cinema. I can't help but just think of all the political messages/narratives that this movie is probably going to have and it'll end up turning me off from the movie as I'm watching. Hopefully that won't be the case.

I don't want to bump this thread, but does anyone, even someone with internal sources, have any news on this project??
Last news I heard is that they were starting shooting this March/April.
Has it been officially delayed or put on hold due to the Coronavirus??
I checked on IMBD, and they changed the status of the film from "Pre-Production" to" Filming", and it's scheduled for 2021.
Will it instead begin production around this summer or this year anyway??
If anyone has knowledge of the behind the scenes, tell it here, thank you.

Yeah, there's been no news at all so it must have been postponed.

I remember them talking about it as a Summer shoot anyways... so hopefully things will be up and running by May or June.

Martin Scorsese Courts Apple and Netflix to Rescue Costly DiCaprio Film

Quote:
Paramount balks at $200 million-plus budget, forcing producers to seek new studio

Martin Scorsese’s representatives have been holding talks with Apple Inc., Netflix Inc. and others, as they seek a new company to produce or distribute the director’s next big-budget film, according to people familiar with the matter. This shift would be the second time in a row the director’s project has become too costly for its original studio.

Why the hell does this movie cost $200M?!?! Christ, Wind River, a similar film about a murder on a Native American reservation, cost $11M! Not saying this is that film, but there's no reason for a drama/thriller like this to cost as much as a CGI laden superhero film. Similarly, The Irishman shouldn't have cost nearly $200M either. Calm down, Scorsese. You made Taxi Driver for an adjusted figure of roughly $6M!

Django Unchained, a period film with two A-list actors and a strong ensemble, with a similarly auteur director, cost $100M. Leo's paycheck is big, but it ain't $100M.

I read an interview with a self-quarantined Robbie Robertson a few days ago where he talked about working on some music for the film, "Even though everything is delayed, now", and that article said the film's shoot has been pushed back an entire YEAR, until March 2021! Robbie didn't actually say that, just said it was delayed. The writer of the article said that, so I don't know if it's true or not.
