Why not, everybody else is doing this. DNS = did not see.
50: Long Shot -- DNS 49: Dolemite Is My Name -- DNS 48: Hobbs & Shaw -- fun, but completely forgettable. The drunken one night stand of action movies. 47: High Life -- hated it. Worst blind buy of the year. 46: Yesterday -- DNS. Own this one, haven't watched yet. 45: Frozen II -- DNS. Never saw the first one. 44: Godzilla: King of the Monsters -- liked, didn't love. Skull Island was much better. 43: Aladdin -- eh. 42: Hustlers -- DNS 41: The Two Popes -- DNS 40: The Nightingale -- DNS 39: Glass -- my number 8. Not the finale many wanted, understand why it was a "love it or hate it" film. I loved it. 38: How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World -- my number 2 for the year. Possibly the best finale to a trilogy since LOTR. I hate that it's over, but I'm glad it went out on such a high note. A magnificent film. 37: A Hidden Life -- DNS 36: Portrait of a Lady on Fire -- DNS 35: IT Chapter Two -- my number 25. Just edged out Crawl (which should be on here somewhere, dammit). Plays much better as a two film epic than on its own. 34: A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood -- DNS 33: Climax -- great movie, just missed my list. 32: Apollo 11 -- my number 5. A sign of everything wrong with the Oscars that this didn't even get nominated. 31: Waves -- my number 9. A vital piece of American cinema. 30: Dragged Across Concrete -- HATED IT. 29: Captain Marvel -- my number 16. Didn't get all the hate for it or for Brie. Marvel has a formula & it works. Can't wait for the sequel. 28: Rocketman -- my number 18. Deserved the same success that Bohemian Rhapsody got, probably killed by a baffling summer release date. "R rated musical biopic" just screams out "fall awards season"... so of course they opened it in May. ![]() 27: Peanut Butter Falcon -- DNS 26: Shazam! -- my number 3. One of the best superhero origin stories ever, right up there with the 1978 Superman and The Rocketeer. Another great film killed by its release date. The DCUs best film, and they sandwiched it between two Marvel mega-blockbusters. Morons. 25: Alita: Battle Angel -- my number 14, like it better every time I watch it. 24: Ready or Not -- DNS 23: The Farewell -- DNS 22: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker -- I am a lifelong Star Wars fan. As a kid, I slept on Star Wars sheets, underneath Star Wars curtains. As an adult, the obsession has not let up. I type this in my living room with a Stormtrooper helmet, a plush Porg & various X-wings, TIE Fighters & Mandalorian Funko Pops in sight. I LOVE Star Wars. I hated Episode IX, almost from the first frame. "The dead speak!" Oh, boy... ![]() 21: Booksmart -- DNS 20: Toy Story 4 -- eh. 19: Doctor Sleep -- had this at 21, could have placed much higher. This is one people will be discovering in the years to come, wondering how they could have missed it. A worthy continuation of both King & Kubrick, no easy feat. 18: Ad Astra -- another "liked, didn't love" movie. Well made. 17: Us -- and same here. One of the best made films of the year; great acting, stylish, haunting, fantastic score... And then it all falls apart at the twist. 16: Spider-Man: Far From Home -- my number 13, a perfect example of the superhero film circa 2019. 15: Little Women -- DNS 14: John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum -- my number 12, could have been higher. The action franchise against which all others must be measured. The looming John Wick 4/Matrix 4 faceoff is going to be EPIC. 13: Marriage Story -- my number 15, should be higher. The most emotionally affecting film of the year, parts are almost painful to watch. ScarJo & Adam Driver are two of our best actors, and both are in peak form here. 12: Ford vs Ferrari -- my number 6. A wonderfully entertaining sports drama, the kind of film of which we always say "they don't make 'em like this anymore". 11: Midsommar -- had this at 23, could have been higher. Hope the director's cut gets a disc release soon. 10: Uncut Gems -- DNS 09: The Lighthouse -- my number 24, have a feeling I'll get more out of this on rewatches. Haaark! 08: Jojo Rabbit -- had this at 7, could easily have gone top 3. A hilarious comedy, a touching coming of age movie, a shocking war drama... How is this movie all three of these things??? Taika cements his genius-level filmmaking here, and I love that we live in a world where "Oscar winner Taika Waititi" is a thing that happened. 07: The Irishman -- completely indifferent to this one. Unlike prime Scorsese (Goodfellas, The Departed) I felt nothing for any of these characters, and can't really recall anything about it, other than being something about Jimmy Hoffa. 200 minutes of blah, blah, blah. 06: Knives Out -- had this at 10, one of the year's pleasant surprises. 05: 1917 -- my number 4, one of the great war movies, ever. 04: Joker -- my number 11, a great movie with a performance for the ages. 03: Avengers: Endgame -- The best film of 2019, and the perfect capper to the Decade of Marvel. Despite the three hour running time, this is the movie I've rewatched the most in the past year. The story is epic, the payoffs from previous films come at a breakneck pace, the fx are world-class, and that moment with Cap is worth the price of admission all by itself. An absolutely unmatched feat in superhero storytelling. 02: Once Upon a Time In Hollywood -- bit of heresy: didn't care for this one. Maybe because I've seen it before; QT keeps making the same movie lately. We follow characters who are facing some sort of personal crisis, and then history gets altered. This formula was great with Inglourious Basterds, it already felt tired by Django, and it absolutely bored me to death here. At the first mention of Manson & Sharon Tate, I knew exactly how the movie was going to end, and 150 loooong minutes later, that's exactly where it went. A major misfire. 01: Parasite -- had this way down at 19. I liked it, I'll watch it again, but I just didn't connect with it the way many of you seem to have done. It's a good movie, but ultimately nothing super special. Only had three on my list that didn't get any love from the community: Angel Has Fallen, Ma, & The Color Out of Space. 2019, a damn good year. ![]() |

Glad to see Joker placing top 5 at #4 considering all the backlash it got here after becoming the highest grossing R rated film and having the most Oscar noms. My #1 film of the year and one that resonated with me the most.
Good to see Parasite at #1 match the Oscars for Best Pic. I wonder though if having the polls’ deadline after the Oscars influenced some of the voting. Thanks thewerepuppygrr and everyone who participated! Always looked forward to these polls every year. Glad we didn’t have the controversy we had last year. Until next year. |

Although my #1 choice was way off (I knew it would be) the next three were pretty close:
Quite a few of these I have not seen yet but definitely adding to my Watch List. Parasite was OK but nothing special, IMO (6/10 for me) |

Personally I had barely heard of it, I don't think it's been released outside the US... ? And it only made ~$77m there apparently? It might be that just not many people have seen it.
![]() I will check it out when I get the chance, just watched the trailer, it looked good ![]() |
