The prices for everything in Japan are steep but that doesn't stop other companies licensing stuff from there and being able to turn a profit. Manga just don't/can't put the effort in.

I went and bought the global edition from Japan. Its a blind buy.

Not sure what is going on in this thread. One minute the movie is amazing, next people are saying its mediocre.

I'll check out the other movies mentioned in this thread. Sounds interesting.

Amazing animation. Last part was a downer, and to me, unclear. The interview with Makoto Shinkai on the Japanese version indicated there were like 10 stories, and he picked three that seemed to go together.

I loved the She and Her Cat short on it best.

Finally watched the Blu-ray. Truly breath taking and heartbreaking, the visuals are astounding.

It's also locked to Region A, though.

Gorgeous film and very emotional, but I wish it was longer. The US Blu-ray from Discotek looks fantastic, although I wish it included the excellent ADV dub instead of the mediocre Bang Zoom dub.

One would imagine that Anime Limited will pick up the licence for this to add to their Shinkai collection...any word on that?

I suspect the Shinkai collection has been shelved, to be honest.

Ah, I remember them saying something about a steelbook set years ago but I was referring to their 'collection' in the sense that they have the rights to every Shinkai film except for 5 Centimetres Per Second and Journey to Agartha - both of which now seem to be OOP in the UK?

You may well know this already, but; anime is expensive in the UK (and US) because the original license holders in Japan don't want the market to encourage reverse importation.

Yeah I was referring to both of your suggestions actually (I remember how they had Travelling Daru planned but was canned since it wasn't Shinkai even though aspects of it was on the discs for the Place Promised collection). Now KAZE UK has given up on a number of titles and I believe Children Who Chase Lost Voices (Journey to Agartha) is among those considering Sentai's US/CA rights for the film had expired also.

As for 5 Centimeters per Second I'm convinced Manga lost the rights or so and basically was able to release a Blu-ray version at the last minute (like what Funimation did with Darker Than Black and Fullmetal Alchemist before Aniplex took them back) considering they released the DVD back in 2010/2011.

True. I'd take it that a number of people reading this forum is multiregion.

Personally, I never listen to any movie dubs . The original Japanese audio will do just fine for me.
