Way too many people never actually audition in a critical manner the speakers that they use to comprise their home theater. It just gets loud enough without gross distortion for the home theater.

They are damn fine speakers. This is not going to turn into a pissing contest is it?

A dedicated audio setup is really not practical in most households.

Yeah, imagine if I have better speakers, the quality difference between streaming and lossless will be even greater. Besides, I don’t want to spend more than C$2000 for a pair of speakers.

Just because a company is award winning doesn't make all their speakers exceptional. Found that out just listening to many speaker brands out there over the years. You have to setup a room where the speaker imaging actually works, not just throw a bunch together for a Atmos immersive experience. Speakers designs vary widely, you cannot say any particular company products lines are all great. Some very reasonable speakers can sound way better than very expensive speakers.

Absolutely in agreement. Except I actually like the Aura 30 compared to Monitor Audio, PSB, Paradigm, Klipsch, B&W at the same price.

You know I was teasing you.

But seriously the cost of speakers has gone way up recently, I have a set of Canadian made Paradigms and yeah what I paid for a few years ago compared to current prices is atrocious.

I know. I saw the

If I didn’t start building my theatres years ago and I’m not in the business, I wouldn’t be able to justify my spending. It’s too much. Especially my habit of upgrading the projector almost at annual basis (actually annual basis for the last 5 years )

For a lot of people that is very true, I was fortunate to have a room that is deep and wide enough to entertain as well as be both a audio as well as a home theater setup. I walk into a lot of homes where the layouts are not really made to entertain people, just to offer maximum bedrooms with a large kitchen/dining area.

I mentioned this in the dedicated Mask of Zorro 4K thread, because I noticed that the 4K SDR version of it is on Netflix and the 4K disc comes out next month.

Well, this prologue, the letters have been digitally removed from the Netflix stream. Someone also posted and said that the film itself has been removed altogether from Netflix UK.

I'm really looking forward to the 4K disc now and am praying that the text is left intact. I'll know in a couple of weeks when it arrives.

[Show spoiler]
What reason would they have to remove that text?

To not offend another country. Netflix is very international with content. I remember Mel Gibson's Patriot created a stir in the UK. But then again Meg Gibson is a repeat offender.

Don't know. Short attention spans for the typical Netflix viewer, which is sad if true.

What triggered it was that I saw it on Netflix but when I went to watch it I noticed the black screen, with just the tapping music score before it went into the sack holes the kids tear into the screen, and we zoom into the street protest. I googled it and there was a Twitter thread on there from last month of folks complaining about it.

The other aspect is they never to get to hear (and see) a properly setup and calibrated home system. They are more than likely to hear a poorly setup one at a friends house and not get the itch to pursue one themselves.

In my mind audio is a lot more personal, as people prefer different characteristics of speaker manufacturers. For example, some people love Klipsch because of the horn design and brightness, but to me, that is not appealing. I was a Paradigm Reference guy for awhile with a pair of Studio 100s anchoring my system, but auditioned my current speakers in my room, and immediately started the upgrade process, and I really liked the Paradigm Reference but fell in love with the AADs. More money, but well worth it to me as I slightly lean more towards audio than video.

Guess that depends on which version of Paradigm Reference you had to compare with. For people not familiar they had five versions, they keep improving the lineup until it was replaced with a another series. But we have similar audio tastes.

I think if you really want a outstanding home theater you have to realize that a lot of the experience you take in is with the audio (music and sound effects). The pursuit for best video presentation is the other half, and too many only think that is all you need unfortunately. Perhaps its as you mention they never hear anything that generates a itch. Poor fellows that visit me, some have been cursed!

You are preaching to the converted here, get yourself to the streaming threads and knock some sense into them.

I had the 2nd version, and have been keeping up somewhat with the upgrades and changes, but have not heard the 5th. They have always been great speakers, and I tell people who ask what brands they should consider to always check out Paradigm’s lineup.

I couldn’t agree more with the second paragraph. It’s always fun to cause some sort of marital tension when (usually the guy) starts thinking about what it would take.

Hey Steedeel we are knocked senseless, but Sound Systems are expensive and the next day they are outdated. You can buy the latest equipment today, and tomorrow it is outdated. So like any Tech, buy the best today and hope for the best by tomorrow. We all try to stay above the curve!
