Reed and Chaplin are both good and the dome containment device is wild, but the film isn’t crazy enough. Remove the futuristic touches and it’s a pretty straight forward melodrama about marriage, friendship and betrayal. Too serious to be fun...

It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. If I was interested in the movie and bought it without knowing Saville's involvement, I probably wouldn't be too happy to be blindsided with that. Kino marginalized him as much as possible with a one-line mention. Not sure what else could be done, honestly.

Never ordered directly from Kino before, but I want to due to their current sale. Normally I'd just ship it to my US mailbox in Buffalo, however during these times with the border shut down for non-essentials, I figured I'd just bite the bullet and ship to Canada. The cost is a bit high, but for the number of discs I'm ordering it's not too bad.

Just a question regarding their Canadian shipping; do they use USPS or a courier? And are Canadian customers provided with a tracking #?

Maybe the titles escape me, but which titles would you say are A-titles from the second Universal deal?
I'm seeing a lot of star vehicles from Kino through Universal so far.

Bob Hope-Bing Crosby (Road to Singapore, Road to Zanzibar, Road to Morocco, Road to Utopia)
Gary Cooper (The General Died at Dawn, The Lives of a Bengal Lancer, Bluebeard's Eighth Wife, Beau Geste)
James Stewart (Bend of the River, Night Passage, The Rare Breed, Thunder Bay)
Marlene Dietrich (Angel, Song of Songs, Pittsburgh, The Flame of New Orleans, A Foreign Affair, The Spoilers)
Burt Lancaster (Desert Fury, The Midnight Man, Ulzana's Raid, Kiss the Blood Off My Hands)
Barbara Stanwyck (Internes Can't Take Money, The Great Man's Lady, The Bride Wore Boots)
Kirk Douglas (Man Without a Star, Lonely Are the Brave)

You can see the list of currently released Universal titles from Kino here. LINK

With the exception of the Stanwyck titles and Lonely are the Brave, those are all from the first deal.

I’m just saying, no one except Kino can say for sure what caused the deal to fall through.

Yeah and the way they mention him doesn't make it like he's a bonus, they're stating the fact that he's in it. It would be a little justified to flip out if it said "Proudly presenting Jimmy Saville's finest work hosting." The guy from earlier needs to chill out.

I've always thought Paramount should re-engineer its promo campaign around "The Naked Gun" franchise as, "Get a chance to see double murderer OJ Simpson at his wackiest."

Speaking of Oliver Reed, you know what movie I'd love to get in HD? 1966's The Trap, with Rita Tushingham. Majestic Vancouver locations, impressive wildlife and two disparate souls finding love in a rustic cabin, this is great stuff and would make for an ideal twofer with Kino's upcoming release of Continental Divide.

I've got a really solid unofficial DVD release, but 1080p would be a godsend.

Anybody have any idea who owns the right to this?

One laserdisc store did advertise The Towering Inferno (slightly misleadingly) as 'Your only chance to see OJ burn.'

ITV, which means Scorpion would be the most likely, but they still have ITV titles like Russian Roulette awaiting a release date for ages.

I'd love it if someone would license Castaway (1986) from MGM. It stars Reed and Amanda Donohoe and was directed by Nicolas Roeg. Stanley Myers & Hans Zimmer did the score and it had additional music from Kate Bush and Brian Eno. Both the book by Lucy Irvine and the movie have been pretty much forgotten but I'd like someone to rescue them from obscurity. I don't think the movie ever got a DVD release in the US.

I've always wanted to see "Castaway", as it's one of the few Roeg films I haven't seen. It's also the film Ollie was promoting during his notorious Letterman interview. I remember because he repeatedly mentions how hot Amanda Donohoe's body is haha.

That's nothing compared to his infamous appearance in Aspel and Company promoting the film, staggering on more drunk than you've ever seen a human being, unkempt and incoherent as he tried to sing...

Things gradually got worse and worse, the host acting as if nothing out of the ordinary was happening and he was just doing his party piece until one of the other guests, Clive James, just calmly took over and tried to talk him down, realising this was way beyond just showing off but a serious problem and asking him why he did this to himself. Car crash viewing doesn't even begin to cover it.

It pretty much killed the movie's chances in the UK overnight: decent reviews made no impression after that fiasco.

Yes they use USPS for their shipments and they include a tracking number which works on Canada Post's website once it gets into Canada.

If you're referring to me, there's nothing to chill out about. I was actually being slightly facetious in making that comment about Savile while at the same time slyly giving Kino a heads up because I have found that many people in North America have never even heard of Savile let alone know what he did.

I remember seeing the third Naked Gun on the big screen when it came out which made for some awkward viewing but also some unintended hilarity like the Untouchables dream sequence where it looks like he is about to spike a baby like it was a football.

That could be it, or maybe a money issue. Who knows. There are plenty of Paramount titles that are considered "B" films, that I know a lot of people would want to own on Blu-ray. I'm hoping whatever issue was, it can be resolved and we can get some Paramount films in 2021.

Also, still curious as to what the second deal will be. Most think it's MGM, but I'm hoping it could be Sony and maybe we can finally get Bugsy and Crazy Joe on Blu-ray.

If Kino turned down a Paramount deal because they considered the films offered B titles I'll lose a bit of respect for them. They've admitted in the past that some of their best-selling discs have been B movies so I don't understand this.
