Reading all of the posts about the subtitles just made me think of something. When I popped in the blu-ray, I wanted to experience the movie in its original language with English subtitles. I thought I had set it in the setup, but I wasn't getting any subtitles. I checked again and verified it was set to English. Still no subtitles. I then noticed that there was an English-2 option with the subtitles and when I chose that, I got the subtitles to display (not the original screener but the "dumbed down" version). I thought it was strange that there weren't any subtitles when I originally chose English but then got them when I chose English-2. Did anyone else notice this?

Could they not release the newer subtitles for download to your blu-ray player? I mean that's one of the great aspects of it being connected to the internet. I couldn't be that big of a file to just add a new subtitle option. You're not changing the lossless audio or anything.

I'll probably pick up the new version but it's not clear-cut to me whether it'll be any "better". For the most part, the emotion or whatever I get from the scene is more from their voice and body language (and what they're doing) than what they're actually saying. Unless the subtitles are changing major plot-points, like the wrong version saying something like "kill the guy" and the theatrical version saying "leave the guy alone", something that totally changes the meaning of the scene, I doubt I'll notice a difference.

i started on English DTS-HD, then the dubbed audio in the class scene (smoke in the lungs) scene just hit me "this is cheesy as hell", so i switched to Swedish DTS-HD and English subs. The only time in the movie where the subs made no sense was when they were lying in bed, there was one or two questions which made no sense whatsoever. overall, the subs issue doesn't bother me. overall, great movie. dissappointed there wasn't much special features, although the director gave great context on sweden and how that little village square in 1982 was all government offices but now is all video stores, ice cream, etc. explains the utter bleakness of the setting. also, i liked how ebert said "a vampire can't enter a room uninvited, hence the title"..good stuff! will buy!! ![]() |

So I was about to purchase let the right one in the other day until i stumbled across this article about the subtitles....
http://iconsoffright.com/news/2009/0...les_in_to.html If the differences didn't really effect the movie I wouldn't care..but it looks like they really ****ed this one up. I guess Magnolia has already commited to fixing the problem but I can't seem to find out when..and I really want a copy of this movie. Does anybody have information on when the newly authored discs will show up? thanks |

I have this from netflix right now but haven't watched it. Given the subtitle issue, is it still worth watching? I hate dubbed movies so that is not a option for me. I realize that there is a considerable difference, but will I still enjoy the movie?
I figure f I like it enough I will watch it again at a later time with the correct subtitles in place (once it's released). |
