EzyDVD has a preorder for Panic Room from Shock due July 1st.
Now if this eventuates its a worldwide first for the title on Blu-ray HOWEVER it is from Shock...Soooo who knows where they will be getting their master from and what aspect ratio it may be presented in. So please temper any expectations. http://www.ezydvd.com.au/blu-ray/Panic-Room/dp/6221984 |

I think maybe what they mean is will it be a nice newer transfer, or will it be a DVD era HD Master Sony had lying around that's not high enough standard to put out themselves, but fine to license to a country with a small market like Australia. |

I know what the OP meant. But I just get sick of the derogatory/dismissive comments about indie labels from folks who won't spend more than $10 on a catalogue title, but expect said indie label to bankroll a 4K restoration by themselves if the rights holder won't supply them with a high quality master.

I am suggesting the audio will likely be a 5.1 Dolby Digital track at 448kbps as most if not all their releases apart from discs mastered from Paramount have been DD lossy. If the audio is this, i wont be that happy about it but I will accept it. |

I have my problems with Shock releases sure but for the most part they put out fairly great stuff that wouldn't have came here otherwise, I honestly have more problems with another studio's releases here due to the fact they charge double more or less what Shock would despite their PQ not being worth the price.
I know it's a pain to be the first one to find out about one of their more infamous releases like I Married an Axe but there will be somebody who will buy this release and tell us all if it's good or sub-par. That rumored 4K release from Sony would be better since Shock tends to be very light on the special features sure but if the film looks good on this release then I'm all for it, we need to support local releases and this price is a steal compared to what it would cost elsewhere. We all know about Shock's sometimes infamous releases if you are on the Australian board but do we really need to scare off people who don't visit here much by bringing those releases up again? They aren't no Áccent and some of their releases look wonderful. |

I am not advocating anyone against picking this up but I am warning based on Shocks recent input that it could have Dolby Digital and/or cropping but until the disc actually comes out this is pure speculation. |

If Sony was releasing it on Blu-ray, they would use the same master as Shock. 4K Blu-ray isn't even part of the discussion. That's all conjecture. |

So how do you know that Sony were to release this they would use the same master they are giving Shock? You mean like the master that Sony gave Shock for “The One” where the Sony Blu Ray is in the 2:35 aspect ratio and Shocks version is cropped. So how is that the same master? Sure you’re right Sony provided it - that film isn’t in the public domain - so maybe I should have rephrased my initial post to say “I wonder where the master Sony provided them came from... is it from an HD broadcast in the 1:78 ratio (cause networks don’t want bars at the top or bottom) Is it the version recently put on iTunes.” The reality is no one including you knows or can comment on the quality, the aspect ratio, the audio specs that Sony is providing until Shock releases it. Hopefully it’s good and if it’s not we can all blame Sony for not giving a shit about a film that a lot of people love and want to be treated right.
