The Magnavox preforms well over the expectations I had for it. It's needed no firmware and has played every disc I've bought/rented. It supplies a great picture and it worth the $200 bucks in my opinion. No problems have been reported except for Twilight recently, which I have no intentions of purchasing. The mag is in my bedroom, don't like using ps3 for blu-ray because it's just too noisy for me, so I might try the vizio as a nice living room player.

That is believable. However, the statement about "Samsung players have had massive and repeated compatibility issues" is not.

Samsung blu-ray players have improved, but I still trust Sony or Panasonic blu-ray players more.

I'll give the Vizio blu-ray player a try when it comes out( in a spare bedroom set-up ).

This article says it will sell for less than $150.00 when it's released( less than $100 by Christmas, profile 2.0 for less than $100 ).

+1 Me too.

I've had my Vizio 42" 1080p for well over a year. Once calibrated it kicks butt. I'm very impressed by the performance my Vizio delivers despite it costing almost half as much as the name brands.

I would expect that Vizio BD players despite their low prices will kick butt too.

What remains to be seen is, will Vizio provide FW updates whenever there's the need? I've never experienced any problems with my Vizio TV, so I haven't been able to test them from that angle.

I am happy with my Sony S350 player. I won't be buying a Vizio BD player. But I would if I didn't already own a BD player.

What's matters most is that people who own Vizios are friendly. Why? Because they are happy campers. Those who aren't friendly to Vizio don't matter.

1. Is that the new Mag 530?

2. The interest in the Vizio isn't so much that it is BD Live enabled, it is that it internally decodes every audio format, includes 7.1 analog output, and should be reasonablly well supported with updates, etc. as Vizio is fast becoming a fairly reputable budget brand, all for $199.

Also on another A/V forum a person e-mailed Vizio directly and they responded that the release has now slipped to "late summer". So unfortunately it isn't coming out next month.

You're right, Samsung all BD players don't deserve the stereotype that they all have compatibility issues.

Just so people know where the bad reputation comes from, check the link

I'm in that boat, my friend. Couldn't be happier with my Vizio. Unless it looked like Eva Green, in which case at THAT point I couldn't be happier.

I am going by my own experience. 67 Blu-ray discs and my 1400 has been flawless. My brother has had his 1500 for almost 4 months with no complaints. I have one other friend with a 1500 and he has not mentioned a problem. 100% of my Samsung Blu-ray player experience has been a positive one. I am very much not interested in people who sure over trivial things like Blu-ray players. However, every link specifies "First-gen", which is the 1200. Not all Samsung Blu-ray players are in that category. Samsung has not had any kind of widespread problem with any other player.

To get this thread back on topic...

The Vizio is officially delayed to August
http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/05/03...-until-august/

Who is in charge of the player listings database on the main blu-ray.com site? It needs to be updated from saying April.

Thanks for the update. I believe Josh mantains the BD player list.

I bought a 2550 for 199$CAD (clearance sales). It's faster than my S350(sony), it have a REON Processor witch does a very good job with 1080i to 1080p material (and dvd) and it convert 1080i/50hz to 1080p/60... so i'am happy. Right now all my title works..

I feel compelled to make a couple of comments. First off, I have had a 37 inch Vizio LCD in the bedroom since October 2007 and a 42” Vizio plasma in the game room since black Friday 2007, both purchased at Costco. No issues at all. They may not be the Cadillac of consumer electronics but everything I have read about them seems to indicate they are good performers for the low price point they offer.

As for Samsung, you are wrong the BDP 1200 was not a first generation player, it was second generation. And I don’t think anyone is that upset about compatibility issues, the real problem comes with a total lack of customer support from Samsung. They were woefully slow to release firmware updates, at times even denying that one was needed. Now they have abandoned the consumer all together. The last update issued months ago is not even downloadable from the web site direct to the player but requires you to burn a disc in order to install it at all. If you need another example of total disregard for the customer experience, how about their recent player releases that were advertised with wireless internet capabilities but once you bought one you discovered that they required a separate Samsung adaptor to get this feature and the adaptor was not even available yet. Pretty poor customer relations on their part if you ask me.

Your player may well be working now. But a company that drops its support for a product within 18 months of its introduction is, in my opinion, one that does not deserve my business.

I moved the 1200 to the game room and hooked it to the Vizio plasma after I got a Sony BDP S550 in August of last year. The Sony hasn’t missed a beat. I have only fired up the 1200 once since. I rented a chick flick bluray for my wife and she was going to watch it in the game room. Thirty minutes into the movie it froze. Why was I not surprised? I agree that the Reon chip is nice, but I can not see the difference with the Sony, watching a 56” DLP. I think unless you are viewing something larger than 70” it is highly doubtful that you will ever see the difference in upscaling benefits. If upscaling meant that much to me I would go with the new Oppo and its AnchorBay chip, which is probably superior to the Reon processor.

All that being said, it sucks you aren't happy with your Samsung. I love mine and I have never had a reason to call customer support. Firmware updates come out, I download them and put them on the player. Everything has worked. I was wrong about the 1200 being the 1st gen, but I am not wrong about the flawless performance of my 1400. If it makes it to Thanksgiving with no problems that will be 2 years. I am happy with that.
