Two moments in Empire Of The Sun get me every time, no matter how often I see them:

[Show spoiler]When Jim (Christian Bale) first arrives at the airfield work camp at night and approaches the A6M Zero. He's pulled to it because he loves aviation, and the Japanese fighters are the only ones he's seen in real life. As he presses his face against the fighter a guard shouts at him and raises his weapon to shoot him down. Just then, three Japanese fighter pilots walk up and notice Jim as he turns around. Jim salutes them. They snap to attention and return the salute, and the guard has to lower his rifle. Gets me every time.

[Show spoiler]The second is at the end. Jim has all but given up, when his new favorite aircraft arrives in the form of a North American P-51 Mustang. The Allies have arrived to liberate the camp, and Jim races to a rooftop to get a better look. Time slows down as a Mustang screams across the base at eye level, and Spielberg pulls off this amazing shot where the pilot looks right into Jim's eyes and waves. It's the greatest liberation scene ever. Jim shouts "P-51! Cadillac of the skies!" It speaks to every kid that ever looked up into the sky and thought he saw a plane wag its wings at him. That's the shot I'm thanking Spielberg for personally if I ever bump into him.

The third is the last 10 minutes of About Schmidt. It absolutely makes the entire dark, dreary, difficult movie pay off. If that last scene doesn't get you, you are made of stone.

I have to admit that the scene in I Am Legend where he is holding his dog while she's changing into a creature and then he breaks her neck made me tear up

I know it's animated, but I've never cried at a movie like I cried at this one (might be because I watched it alone). I mean.. almost every scene called for tears. Real tears.. not just misty eyes.
