You can't tell me that you can open up a barber as being an essential business but keep meat packing places closed and saying they're non essential.

Um, they are considered essential, maybe do some research. Meat packing and processing plants aren't all shut down. The administration has ordered that they remain open. Some have had to temporarily close, but they are all mandated to stay open. You don't need to open up the country for those places to hire new people.. You should also understand that you can't just get someone off the street for this kind of job..

Meat isn’t essential. I’ve been a vegetarian since I was 16 (I’m 38 now), and I can tell you that you don’t need meat to live.

A lot of times, what's expected of us in life is so little yet somehow, stupid people still don't want to do it.
was Cuomo wearing a mask? i havent seen him wear a mask ever. regardless if he is nowhere near anyone, perception is everything.

Folks have to be allowed to return work & earn money to provide for their families & not every occupation has a nice "WFH" option.
higher risk people would be recommended to stay at home but if they are comfortable going to work, then they go to work.

When I go to bath & body works with my girlfriend, those are often pretty packed.

My favorite small local pizza shop doesn't even allow credit card payments - they don't even have a machine - it's cash only.

Clothing stores are pretty important but they get busy, plus people are handling and trying on clothes and then putting them back on the rack for somebody else to try on.
the 6ft rule is broken EVERY DAY at grocery stores. how is going up to the cashier at a flower shop any different than going up to one at a grocery store

Fun times. This is in Scotland. No way that would fly in the US.

That's, simply put, unrealistic and unachievable. So you're sitting 2 seats away from somebody at a hair salon waiting your turn and that weekend you're contacted and expected to go into isolation just because the person 2 chairs away tested positive for it? 2 Weeks later you have a customer come into your work and spends 15 minutes discussing something, or you're at a meeting, and that weekend you get contacted again and are expected to go into isolation for another 2 weeks?! And that's in a hotel, not your own home! And this can repeat indefinitely, just because an app triggers your locations being nearby somebody who has it?

Come on, this is going too far. That's an unrealistic burden and will basically mean more people will lose jobs if they suddenly have to disappear for 2 weeks even if they aren't sick just because an app says so. Plus, as the article says, there can be false positives as people in apartments can trigger false positives just by being on opposite walls, due to bluetooth picking up through the walls. It could easily pick up your neighbor on the opposite wall to your apartment. I have a neighbor directly on the other side of my wall, and my bluetooth picks up his laptop every time I do a search for bluetooth devices.

There's a point where some ideas are just not feasible, and will do more harm than good, and this crazy idea is one of them.
that is preciseness what that are going to try and do here with the app coming out soon. im not downloading that nonsense on my phone and im sure the majority of people wont either

Cuomo/NY's mandate for wearing a mask is to do so in situations where social distancing can't be maintained. That isn't an issue at his press briefings, which I have to assume most people are seeing him (if not in an interview on CNN or something)

By that logic, then vegetables aren't essential either. Like it or not, both meat and others foods are part of the food supply we depend on, and obviously is and should be considered essential. We don't need food shortages.

A lot of people still don't understand that and assume you have to wear a mask all the time outside your home. I see people driving with them on all the time.

Food is essential, yes. But meat isn’t. You can live a long and healthy life with fruits, vegetables, and miscellaneous foods such as nuts.

Meat is food. Get off your vegetarian high horse. I could live a long and happy life as a carnivore if I wanted to.

Yes, "starvation" isn't coming. That's hyperbole at its finest. I mean, people could live off of just potatoes if they had to, and there's a huge excess of that right now, and they're actually being thrown away sadly. All of this food should be exported to places where people are actually starving to death...

Guess you missed the rancher saying they are being forced to mow under crops too...it's just not being forced to kill livestock.

Eating just potatoes would cause long felt health issues. We have to stop this short term thinking and think long term ramifications too.

I didn’t mean to imply that those that prefer to eat meat should stop, just that "essential" means necessary, and you don’t need meat to live. Excuse me for wanting words to be used properly.

Let's say we ate potatoes and only potatoes for months. There would be a huge spike in obesity and a huge spike in diabetes and heart disease.

I guess you don't understand how hypoetheticals work. No one will actually have to eat just potatoes for the next few months. There will be a huge variety of food available even with any shortages. The point being no one here will be starving.

You don't need vegetables to live either.

But both meat and vegetables comprise the world's food supply and both are considered essential. Cut off part of that supply and you have a food shortage.
