Yeah it's hardly the Star Wars LD shrinking aspect ratio issue

See, that’s one of my favorite revisions—it’s so immersive and actually sounds like what being inside an old metal ‘70s car during a downpour is like. It’s LOUD.

Considering I heard the movie for the first time in 5.1, I don't know what wasn't there originally, so that doesn't matter to me in the slightest as everything sounds like it is there to me.

I do have to make one slight correction though. I can't watch Godfather II in 5.1 because there seems to be an echo thing going on with all sound effects.

And I would never argue otherwise. I'm just saying that, in this case, the loss of the mono really shouldn't rank over all the other major virtues of the 4K disc, especially considering the remix is a doozy. Passing on the 4K of HALLOWEEN because it's missing the mono is really throwing out a precious baby because of some lukewarm water. Personally, it hurts more that the TV cut hasn't been bumped up to 4K. I really miss the extra scene with Loomis.

I never said it was a dealbreaker. The remix IMO isn’t nearly as bad as say Jaws or The Terminator but I sympathize with those frustrated that the release provides a mono downmix as opposed to the original mono.

I do believe William Shatner wasn't too pleased about being associated with a serial killer.

The Loomis scene is great, but imo all of the added scenes for the tv cut slow down the pacing of the movie almost to a compete halt. It's a fun option to have, but the theatrical cut is by far superior in every way.

Seems a bit hyperbolic, if you ask me. We're talking two scenes, and neither are unusually long. The sweet spot would be a cut with the Loomis scene restored but Laurie fresh from a shower removed.

The TV scenes are interesting but they bog down the film IMO. I think they’d work better if the scene with Loomis talking to the doctors was shortened and the aforementioned Laurie-fresh-from-the-shower scene was removed, as Filmmaker stated above. I do really like the part when Loomis walks into Michael’s room and says, “You’ve fooled them, haven’t you Michael? But not me.” That’s another classic Loomis line. In any event, the original version of Halloween is already perfectly paced so I don’t miss any of these scenes when I watch it.

I just love the first Halloween so much. I never get sick of it. The simple story, cinematography, directing, long camera takes, music, pacing, mask, Nick Castle’s portrayal of the Shape, etc. It’s just so well done and is among my top 5 of all time favorite films.

My biggest beef with the TV cut are the scenes they added to connect the whole sibling bs.

The only part of the TV scenes that shows the sibling connection is the door in Michael’s room with the word “sister” written on it. And even then it doesn’t necessarily mean anything other than wanting to kill some more women and relive the night when he killed his sister.

I have passed on this due to the lack of mono. Halloween is one of my favorites and I've seen it over and over again on VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray and I've never been comfortable with the 5.1. The new effects sound new. The same as Psycho, Terminator, Jaws etc. Although Psycho and Halloween are pretty subtle. Terminator is the worst offender.

However I might bite as i'm creating a Plex server and if it's easy to mux the original audio that would be my go to version.

I thought there was also a scene of child Laurie visiting child Michael with Michael sitting in a chair?

BTW, does the 4K release include all of the extras that were present on the Shout! Factory release?
