Did someone say "buy more movies?"

That's exactly what I have been doing; I appreciate sage advice even if I did not need it.

Your short 153 UHD BD's you know.
I am looking to buy a new AVR, and I have one in mind, but I also want to upgrade my front line speakers.

I do not mind buying a new AVR online, but I need to be able to audition speakers in person. I can not do that with the stores still being closed and as I live in a rural area the nearest cities with decent home theater stores are over 100 miles away.

I have an appt to audition a Trinnov Altitude on Friday. This is going to be interesting and might cause my wife to have me committed.

I can see why she might!

"Trinnov offers the Altitude32 in four versions: the eight-channel AL32-88 base model ($17,500), 16-channel AL32-816 ($21,000), 24-channel AL32-1624 ($25,500), and 32-channel AL32-1632 ($29,000)—all priced without the $2,500 3D Audio package that brings Atmos, DTS:X, and Auro-3D into the fold."

Let us know what you think after your audition and which one you buy.

I think there's 3 arriving tomorrow but 1 is a Blu Ray (eww). I won't pre-order Jaws because I have to have it on release day even if it's almost as old as I am ....

p.s. I re-audited my collection and found a couple I forgot I bought including Underworld Bloodwars (with Beckenhot.) what a pleasant surprise.

As you can see from my list of fave films, Jaws is near perfection to me. Probably seen it 200 times lol.

Suddenly I decided what would take my Home Theater to 11

I used to have seats from my local "real" theater in my home theater. You would think that's the ultimate but my local theater is the worst I've ever been to. The floor doesn't slope and the screen has visible damage bright EXIT signs are visible at all times when looking at the screen.

Anyway,.... If some "real" theaters close down with good seats I'm going to go back to theater type seating. I have to setup an eBay bot to grab me 10. (good to have a couple spares)

I remember the Stanford theater in Palo Alto as having comfy chairs and being just overall amazing and fun to visit.

https://stanfordtheatre.org/

They did a Hitchcock film festival and I saw as many as I was able including Vertigo.

Quote from Web Page = The Stanford Theatre Foundation is dedicated to bringing back the authentic movie-going experience of Hollywood's Golden Age. Classic Hollywood directors never intended you to watch their pictures on a video screen in your living room (or while jogging). The magic of the movies depends on a larger-than-life image and the shared reactions of a large audience.

But yeah, I guess that's why I stopped using the real theater chairs. I don't have to compete with my local "real" theater because it's a dump.

I just figure maybe there's some nice ones coming used if they have to repurpose theaters or space the seating differently.

I guess in my case I could have the back row be theater seating and the front row be the big ole couch it is now.

I have a friend Becky who was in Jaws. You can see her at 1:03:32. She played a member of a high school band that rushes to help people out of the water. The guy next to her in a tie was laughing in the shot. She said this is because in the previous take he dropped a girl he was trying to pull out of the water and her top fell off. He was still laughing about it and it made it into the movie.

She came and watched Jaws at my house and told me all kinds of trivia about the area which is where she grew up.

No fair... I wanna be in Jaws.

Your own personal commentary live? Great story that. I will look out for that next time.

Russell Crowe's thriller 'Unhinged' gets an actual movie theater release date of July 1 - CNN - 5/13/20

Quote:
Solstice Studios has ambitiously set a July 1 release date for the new Russell Crowe thriller, "Unhinged."

The original release date had been set for September 4, but the date was moved up after movie theaters closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, reports Deadline.

"Unhinged" is the first movie to be released during the pandemic and will likely be an indicator as to whether crowds will actually return to theaters.

Business is booming for Showboat Drive-In Theater in Hockley amid COVID-19 outbreak - 6abc.com

Quote:
HOCKLEY, Texas -- The drive-in theater, long a dwindling nostalgia act in a multiplex world, is experiencing a momentary return to prominence.

With nearly all of the nation's movie theaters shuttered due to the coronavirus pandemic, some drive-in owners think they're in a unique position to give moviegoers a chance to do something out of the house while keeping distance from others. This weekend, some drive-ins aren't the only show in town. They're the only show in the country.

The Showboat Drive-In Theater in Hockley, Texas, about a 30-minute drive outside Houston, normally sees ticket sales go down about 40% on a weekend when they don't have any new movies. Last weekend, they saw a 40% increase, says the theater's owner, Andrew Thomas. Usually open weekends, Thomas has kept screenings going through the week.

"Obviously this isn't the way you'd want it to occur, but I'm excited for the idea that there may be a new generation of people that will get to experience going to a drive-in theater and - I was going to say catch the bug," said Thomas, laughing. "Maybe some other turn of phrase."

I saw that. I bet that once they exhaust whatever stock they have from Fox, they will no longer "reprint" or get them back again.

I doubt that Screen Archives Entertainment (SAE) will do much more than sell off whatever remains of Twilight Time's remaining stock come this July. If SAE can get some titles reprinted, that's great, but I will believe it when I see it. I especially doubt that they will be able to release altogether new titles.

I certainly do not mind being wrong about this, but I do not think that SAE has ever licensed any content in their 44 year history; they historically traffic in movie and TV soundtracks and they have never been more than a retailer of products made by others.
