Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Pike Spinoff Officially Announced by CBS All Access

https://comicbook.com/startrek/news/...Wtq-hh92EQRHxs

Captain Pike's voyages continue in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on CBS All Access. On Friday, CBS All Access announced that it has ordered the Star Trek: Discovery spinoff straight to series. The series follows Christopher Pike and the rest of the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise in the decade before the original Star Trek television series. The new series is one that fans have been asking for since Star Trek: Discovery's second season debuted. Anson Mount (The Virtuoso, Hell on Wheels) returns as Captain Christopher Pike. Rebecca Romijn (X-Men, Ugly Betty) reprises her role as Number One. Ethan Peck (Good Morning, Midnight; Penny Dreadful: City of Angels) is back as Science Officer Spock.

Rumour is the Section 31 series has been put on hold to allow for the development of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and to allow for Michelle Yeoh to have an ongoing role in Star Trek: Discovery for the foreseeable future. I’m fine with that.

Me too. Even though I was looking forward to that as well I'd much rather have this!

Not to moan about people who moan (who, mesa?) but once we get all the action and lens flares and cursing that's part of current day Trek then the same old suspects will pop up saying "this ain't mah Star Trek!". Eh, **** 'em. Can't wait for this!

Because...er...Discovery, Picard, and the Kelvin Timeline films were so unsuccessful and audience-repelling that CBS continues to expand the franchise with brand-new projects...??

Hoping this one feels more like Star Trek than the last few have. They were watchable, but to be honest Pike and the Enterprise were the best part of Discovery S2, and Picard feels more like generic sci fi than Star Trek to me. (Everyone is entitled to their own opinion if you disagree). I hope this one feels a bit more like the Star Trek of old. I like in the video that he says it will deal with optimism like classic Star Trek. Cautiously excited for this one.

Too obvious to not do. Strange New Worlds is a solid show title, and I really hope it lives up to that. This is the show that shouldn't have a season long story arc, or at least not a dominant one. It should be like Enterprise S4, with a mix of single, 2, or 3 episode stories. Of course some character arcs should be sustained over all episodes.

Much excite! We already know the three leads of the show work as those characters, so there's no reason for this to struggle early on like most ST shows do.

By the way, there were Kirk casting rumors earlier this week, so expect to have at least one episode where Pike and Spock meet the younger officer. In the time of this series (Discovery S2 ends in 2258, and TOS S1 is in 2265), Lt. Kirk should be serving on the USS Farragut.

Yes, in itself the title does suggest a more episodic style.

The only good thing that came out of Discovery Season 2 was Pike.

As long as it has good writers this could have potential but that's my worry and all hinges on if they have.

If it does not then this could be another Discovery/Picard disaster.

Really hoping this one delivers and not become a let down.

Just saw ...showrunner Alex Kurtzman from someone's Post. Hmm not looking good already.

Pretty fantastic news. I never in my wildest dreams saw this coming, but so happy the powers that be at CBS actually brought some good news this Friday. This makes the 4th Star Trek show for this service unless the Michelle Yeoh show is no longer coming. But I'm hoping it still is.
