Hi everyone,

Thinking of purchasing this player while it's on sale at target ($200 packed with the movie Creed and HDMI cable). Already have the 2016 Samsung for my upstairs TV but was thinking of switching it up with this one for my downstairs TV. For those that have had the player for awhile, are you still liking it? I am debating about going with this Phillips player and the recently released LG player. But for the price of this Phillips player, seems hard to go wrong!

Get the Sony x800, it's the better player and only $99 more. I tried that Philips player and returned it, it was ok but not worth more than $100 to me.

Thoughts on adjusting the contrast in the player settings? Any downside to doing so?

How is the Sony x800 better?

New update. Looks like it enables HDR on the Netflix app.

Keep an eye out at Target as this hit 70% off locally,
making it $75.04 on clearance (down from the orig price of 299.99)

I think it's even cheaper on Amazon now. Yeah, I got the Philips player, had it for months. I will try to sell it on ebay or something and get the Sony.

Was finally able to grab one today, not bad for $75. Went to a bunch of other targets and they had already salvaged them out which sucked.

Is this unit still being supported by Philips and is it still worth purchasing?

I would like to get a 4K blu-ray player, but want something compact.

FYI, Best Buy has the LG UP875 4k uhd player for $99 right now. I have the UP870 model (walmart) and for the time being I'm quite satisfied with it till I can get what I really want. It has a video setting quirk but I got mine on clearance for $49 so I can live with it. There's a thread on both players if you want to read what uses are saying.

I'd go with the Philips over the LG. I've been reading the threads for all the other players and they've all pretty much had problems with noisy drives or incompatibilities with certain discs.

My Philips is quiet and has played all 36 4K discs I've bought without a hitch.

The DV update would be nice but I only have 2 discs that have DV and I won't be watching them again for a while so I can wait for the update.

Make sure you have 4:4:4 set in the menu. Without it you won't get HDR on Netflix. The app has supported HDR for over a year now

Sorry for bumping such an old thread, but did Philips ever update this to support blu-rays with Dolby Vision?
