Hey there NormanicGrav;
I just finished reading your article here;
https://animeuknews.net/2020/05/anim...matsuri-panel/

Do you (or anyone) have knowledge regarding the quality of the two dub potential choices, ADV and Netflix for NGE?
I suspect most will opt for the subs regardless but I am curious if the ADV dub would be the better choice?

The ADV dub is more energetic and overstated, whereas the Netflix is more muted and subtle. The Netflix dub is a more faithful translation, but sometimes overly so - “third children” when referring to the singular child rather than “third child”. The Netflix dub also loses the iconic ‘Fly Me to the Moon’ end theme.

A lot of the time I preferred the Netflix, but I grew up with the ADV dub, and Alison Keith, Amanda Winn-Lee and Tiffany Grant’s performances are intrinsically linked to the roles for me.

Apologies to go a little bit off-topic.

Viz's release of Megalo Box has the Audio Dramas included on their BD release (it was missing on their DVD release). The reason why the upcoming UK release by Anime Limited has the Audio Dramas on a separate DVD, because Anime Limited are using Madman's BD discs, which are missing the Audio Dramas.

Since there have been hoodies and shirts of Eva, has there ever been a bomber jacket like what ADV was planning with there pipe dream of a release?

Is there a possibility of a standard edition happening down the line for this or does Anime Limited only deal in "ultimate editions"? Because I know for sure I won't own it at that price point and if I really do have to plunk down for a region free player then I may as well go cheap for the BDs.

^^ I'd suggest that it is indeed possible, as they've released both styles of Anime packaging for high tier shows before.
Like everyone else though, I'm in a wait and see scenario as we have no inkling as yet what their plans are.

I don't think everybody wants to pay £200-300 not just importers. Limiting it to an UE (unless Khara is restricting them to that) would probably be leaving money on the table IMHO. They have offered different levels of releases before. FMP! for example got a UE, a normal LE, and a normal standard release. So I would be surprised if they didn't offer at least a SE down the road.

I wonder if how long it'll be before we are able to preorder it.

AL doesn’t put anime on pre order until they lock a date (might get delayed afterwards but that’s another story), I would be surprised if it didn’t take more than 1 year until it goes up to pre order.

I don't think there have been any title that made it solely to UE? They always released a cheaper edition afterwards.
But of course, if you ask them they'll tell you "no plan", which is a huge lie. They just want you to buy the more expensive release.

2021 is really vague but as I said, they'll do ANYTHING to be the first english territory to release it. Because that will be a huge sale boost for them.

Stuff that gets a UE will get a standard either at the same time, or within a few months. The big exception is Fullmetal Alchemist, since the UE was just the simultaneously available CEs packaged with the big silly resin gate and an artbook.

CEs of TV shows will usually remain CE-only until they go OOP, at which point a standard edition will usually come shortly after. Films are usually the exception to this, they'll fairly often have a standard at the same time.

With Evangelion, past trends would indicate a standard will follow fairly closely after, if not day-and-date. But this is Khara, so all bets are off.

The "ultimate/collector's edition" will likely be limited to x number of units and will initially be the only option available. Once it sells out at the wholesale level (i.e. goes out of print) there is a 99.9% AL will offer a "standard edition" version. This has been AL's modus operandi for as long as I have been following them. If you are patient (I am not when it comes to Evangelion) you will be able to get it cheaper.

UPDATE 8/19/2021 GKids (US) and All The Anime (UK) Officially Unveil Neon Genesis Evangelion Ultimate Edition.

Product Image:

USEFUL INFORMATION/F.A.Q. REGARDING TECHNICAL DETAILS:

- Which Dub Will The Ultimate Edition Have?
It will have both the original ADV dub and Netflix dub.

- Will It Include "Fly Me to the Moon"?
No

- Will This Be The Broadcast Version, Or Home Video Release With Directors Cut Episodes?
It will be home video release (Platinum Collection) with the Directors Cut episodes 21 - 24.

- Will This Release Be Native HD, Or Upscaled?
This release will be native 1080p HD, with the exception of Episode 16

In an effort to consolidate and designate any/all future updates regarding the newly announced Neon Genesis Evangelion "Ultimate Edition" release, I have created this thread. The purpose of this thread is to create a a single one-stop source for all future updates leading up the Anime Limited BD and GKids release of Evengelion. The moderators and I thought it would be best to do this and reduce redundant posts/threads as information begins to ramp up in the future.

I encourage and welcome other members to use this thread as a source as well, and would greatly appreciate posting updates that I or other members might miss. Obviously, 2021 is a long ways away and it'll most likely be months before All The Anime/GKids posts any relevant updates regarding their hotly anticipated BD release, so with that in mind, this thread will probably be buried in the meantime. In the event of an update, I will resurface this thread - just please remember this exists and don't create another thread.

This is an exciting announcement for everyone. Thanks in advance for all of your collected effort to use this thread as a single source of information. I look forward to everyone's enthusiasm in the coming months as more information pours in. See you soon everyone!

Pretty sure I'll be judge for buying this when I have no plans to ever buy a region free player. Of course that all depends on if the US gets a release.

I hope this gets a US release too. If not, my region-free player is ready and waiting

It'll be interesting to see if the disc ends up having the same changes the Netflix version does. I've got the old ADV singles on hand still, and I think I'll be holding on them.

I'll be getting this even though it'll be like $350+ after the exchange rate. And I'll get a US one if it comes out. In the event a US one never does come out I'll at least have this one lol.

I definitely need the ADV dub, if not the original subs. If this release is stuck with the Netflix translations, then I'll be skipping it =/

I'm in the exact same shoes, and yeah - it'll probably be around $300 US Dollars. But that's okay, it's the price I'm willing to pay to finally have an HD release of Evangelion. I'm excited to see the packaging and presentation. I hope All The Anime goes balls to the walls with this one.

Time will tell, but my guess is that it'll have the ADV dubs or be strictly English subs. I don't think they'll be using Netflix's dub due to the fact that Netflix paid money out of their own pocket for the new dub that's on Netflix's streaming channel for Evangelion. Devilman Crybaby didn't have the English dub on its JP Blu Ray either and its dub was also funded by Netflix.

Fair, but what if they use the new sub translations? I'd probably buy this even if it only has the original ADV dub. But having both that AND the original subs would make it a slam dunk purchase in my eyes
