"Angel" Star Andy Hallett Dies of Heart Failure - Blu-ray Forum

Andy Hallett, who starred as Lorne ("the Host") on the TV series Angel, died of heart failure last night at age 33, according to his longtime agent and friend Pat Brady. The actor passed away at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles after a five-year battle with heart disease, with his father Dave Hallett by his side.

Hallett, from the Cape Cod village of Osterville, Mass., appeared on more than 70 episodes of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff, Angel, between 2000 and 2004. The accomplished actor was also a musician and sang two songs ("Lady Marmalade" and "It's Not Easy Being Green") on the Angel: Live Fast, Die Never soundtrack, released in 2005.

The actor's character on Angel was Krevlornswath of the Deathwok Clan, or Lorne for short. Hallett's Lorne was a friendly demon, who, when not assisting Angel and his team in the investigation of various and sundry underworld mysteries, served as the host and headliner at a demon bar.

Back in 2001, Hallett told our own Jen Godwin that despite constant flirtation with David Boreanaz' character Angel, and the occasional sly Elton John reference, "We don't really know if he's gay. I don't really know. It's funny, because sometimes he's right in Angel's face, and that's when I feel it the most. And viewers would probably think, hmm, what's going on here? This guy's pretty curvy."

Hallett has spent his post-Angel years working on his music career, playing shows around the country. He had been admitted to the hospital three or four times in the past few years for his heart condition, according to Pat.

Another Angel castmember, Glenn Quinn, who played Doyle in season one, passed away in 2002.

A private funeral service will be held for family and close friends in Cape Cod, most likely over this weekend.

wow, this is shocking. So sad to hear. I'm a big fan of angel and buffy and me and the wife are on the last season of angel right now. I never knew he had a heart condition. So young to. That cast has certainley had it's losses. I don't know what else to say. R.I.P.

I'm interested in hearing the results of the autopsy, and exactly what heart condition he had. I wonder if he was born with some kind of heart defect. It's always a tragedy for someone to die so young.

Personally I was a Buffy fan and never found myself able to get into watching Angel but I do remember his character quite well for always singing. RIP

Bummer when TV greats go. The guy was so young too, it's freaky. Also makes me wonder how young he was on Angel. Hard to believe someone could die of heart disease at that age. Sad news.

While I do not want to cast aspersions, the specter of drug abuse could be an issue in this death unless it was a congenital defect. He was great as Lorne on Angel.

This interview with Hallet may give a disturbing reason for his heart problems.

I remember when watching Angel how sad it was when Doyle died on the show, knowing he was actually dead... and his last words are something like, "Is that it?" (He was making a video for Angel's business and it cuts to that at the end. It's brutal).

Makes me think... on the Angel comics is Lorne back? Will Joss give him a send off? He should to honor him.

Well if he was 33 when he died, and Angel began in '99 that would have made him 23 when he started on Angel. Much much younger than I thought he was under all that make-up.

I'm a big fan of angel and buffy and me and the wife are on the last season of angel right now. I never knew he had a heart condition. So young to. That cast has certainley had it's losses.
