Well, not exactly "bad," but some better than others. This list contains his theatrical output as a Director:

I just watched Slumdog Millionarie Blu-ray in it's entirety and I give it 10/10!
I was particularly impressed by the storyline which was unpredictable and kept me interested throughout the story. The raw poverty of a third world country such as Mumbai or Bombay (whichever you prefer), India was accurately portrayed but still managed to captivate the viewer in the love story which fueled the main character Jamal for his girl Latika. It's a classic rags to riches tale from an Indian (by Indian I mean of the country India and not Native American) perspective. Which BTW, North American audience's seldom see ravaging poverty in other countries. We complain about a bad economy but are still comparably wealthy. We should consider ourselves blessed. In terms of picture quality I would give it 8.5-9/10. Some scenes look incredibly sharp, detailed and vibrant. Such as the city chase scene at the start of the film. Other scenes such as the "Who Want's To Be A Millionaire" game show looked grainy but was easy to ignore because I was involved in the story. Audio quality I give it 10/10. Sound is in 5.1 DTS-HD MA which suited my 5.1 system well. At some scenes with music soundtracks I had to turn the volume down because the bass was a little bit overwhelming. I can assume this will be a good thing for those who play their systems loud ![]() For those who think this is a typical Bollywood movie - movie musical with lots of singing, dancing, bad acting and light-skinned actors it's not. Slumdog Millionarie truly is an underdog drama. That's what I like most about it. This movie was close to being straight-to-DVD release because of production costs then was premiered at the Toronto Film Festival (my hometown!) which then gained ground toward all the awards it has won. If a movie of this high caliber can be made about India to bring honor to it's people it gives me hope as a Filipino-Canadian that doors will be opened to give way for films depicting hope within poverty stricken countries such as my parents home country of the Philippines. |

I've seen 28 Days Later and Sunshine, and liked both of them, although 28 Days Later a bit more.
I bought my copy of Slumdog at Costco today for $25.99. Since they have a liberal ad infinitum return policy, I'll be able to buy it from somewhere else when it eventually goes on sale and bring that copy back to Costco. |

Does anybody else think that this movie has no replay value? I have little to no desire to watch it again.
I thought it was good but, seeing it after the Oscars, I was greatly effected by the hype. BTW..it had some loud wicked awesome sound in the theater!! |

Rented it tonight and thought it is a worthy best picture. Certainly better then a number of recent Oscar best picture winners. I thought the child actors were amazing.
When I tried to access the special features, the only thing I could get was activating commentary from Danny Boyle and someone else (can't remember who now). Didn't see any deleted scenes or the other special features indicated on the packaging. Could it be because my player, a Panasonic DMP-BD30 isn't advanced enough? I have installed the firmware upgrades up to version 2.5 Anyone else not able to access the special features such as deleted scenes? |

The only time I wouldn't consider buying a BD for a movie I really like is if the quality was a train wreck. This is far and away not that.
The PQ could be better but it is faithful and I rather have that then some screwing around with it to make it pretty pictures and it not be. I enjoyed watching it and don't have any big issues utilizing my 40" LCD. Buy with confidence if you like this movie. If necessary, rent first but I don't think you really need to. Considering there are a decent number of reviews giving you the picture on the quality and if what was said has you concerned, then rent first. For the folks who watched it, are you detecting any video noise on this BD? Last edited by robertc88; 04-01-2009 at 12:53 PM. |
