You have to pay extra fees for disinfected rooms (no bugs in the bed) and sanitized bathtubs. But you shouldn't pay extra if some services are eliminated...sauna, whirlpool, hotdog buffets, TV remote control, bathrobes, feet masseuses, ...

Wall Street Journal - The Lockdown Made Big Fish Bad News
When restaurants closed, fish farms got crowded. Now aquatic farmers are trying to stunt growth.

^above article is paywalled, but worth viewing if you have a library card and the library offers free digital articles, such as ProQuest.

New York City is one of the biggest markets for aquaculture, aka farmed fish. Because of the covid lockdown of the city and many other big city restaurants, the farmed fish have been growing in the tanks without being bought.

Fish that get too big, bigger than the size of a restaurant dinner plate, aren't useful to the farmers. Many of the farmers are selling to people direct, donating to food banks, freezing them with liquid nitrogen, or smoking them. They're also trying to lower the water temperature to slow down fish growth.

The WSJ often does these quirky articles in a section called A-HED.

I'm not being charged with a resort fee but I would understand it if it was a covid charge.

The first hotel I'm checking into next month has an arcade, bowling alley, fitness center, complimentary use of bicycles, pool and hot tub and free breakfast. I guess none of those things will be available.

I wouldn't mind if I was going by myself, but am bringing the family as our first getaway.

I don't know if this hotel will do it, but leaving a room empty for 72 hours after check-out is going overboard and frankly not a sustainable business model.

I haven’t noticed any prediction in that regard out of CDC, but Dr. Ashish Jha (a recognized expert from Harvard Global Health Institute) predicts 200,000 deaths by September if we just stay flat, as well as him making other key points with regards to a paramount missing piece -

Most hotels don't have many weekday visitors anyway, so leaving the room empty for 72 hours after a weekend visit won't be an issue.

Resort fees, wifi fees, etc. are lame excuses for a hotel to not pay booking sites.

The trend is not flat but downward. I don't know if he is predicting the death curve to flatten or he is not making a prediction per se, but rather is just projection out the numbers from today's average mortality figures.

Seven day moving average now down to 770 per day, which 90 days from now if flat would be 187,000 deaths.

I think the key to decreasing the mortality rate is early detection which requires a ton of testing. That's what did the trick for us early on. And looks like that's working out much better in the US now too.

we’ll see how it pans out, regardless, as far as I’m concerned, waaaaay too many people have already died and suffered due to a lack of a concerted nationwide (federal) response, meanwhile coming up shortly on JAMA Live -

Coronavirus Q&A with Carlos del Rio, MD Monday, June 15, 2P CST #JAMALive - YouTube
Is it what it is. We can't undo what's been done. Always too many people dying, but as long as the trend is in the positive direction, one can take hope from that and will continue to fall.

It's odd that all the focus is on cases, which are largely due to increased testing and thus the least reliable barometer, but ignored are positive trends in something so important: people dying.

That's because there is no good way to look at suffering, loss and death. Also, news cycles focus almost exclusively on negativity, it's what has and will continue to sell.

Because hospitalizations are going up as well in several states (14 last time I checked). An increase in testing does not explain that.

Yes i'm sure the 100k deep protest's in most american city's the last 3 weeks has nothing to do with it at all.

https://www.nationalreview.com/news/...-blm-protests/

To further this point i have just read that Deworthless mayor of NYC will not allow it's contact tracers to ask if the person was at a protest!

Hospitalizations are up in states that opened early. There were protests all over the US. And Europe too, btw.
