It´s real. They send me a mail regarding this second release. Of course, I still haven´t received my original backer copy. And now they also split up the Content they actually filmed and let us pay twice. Classy move once again overall.

In Search of Darkness: Part II Announcement!

You asked, we heard. The follow-up to In Search of Darkness will be available for order this October as both a doublepack with the original and as a standalone add-on! Expect more interviews, more unheard stories, and even more films covered!

A message from In Search of Darkness Director/Writer David Weiner:

“I am excited to announce that I am writing and directing In Search of Darkness: Part II, coming this fall. The positive response to In Search of Darkness has been nothing short of amazing. It was a true passion project collaboration by CreatorVC, forged by genuine fans for genuine fans.

Your continued enthusiasm for the material has galvanized our desire to connect even more with the horror community and to deliver a steady stream of movie nostalgia that puts smiles of recognition on our faces.

Part II, a continuation of the In Search of Darkness concept originated by executive producer Robin Block, will feature all-new interviews from ‘80s horror icons and influencers/industry experts alongside a wealth of compelling, unseen material from our original cast of interviewees.

The running time of Part II is still being determined; like In Search of Darkness, it will deliver the same structure of popular/niche film-focused segments, spanning 1980-1989, in between larger-context chapter topics of interest."

In the email they sent out was a survey. In the survey they asked:

"We want to explore '80s horror topics NOT covered in the first documentary. What topics do you MOST want to see covered in the sequel, In Search of Darkness Part II. (Select up to three topics) *

the first one is like 4 hour long already, so even if they did have the content back then, divide it into 2 parts is reasonable, I think

I backed for 80€, still haven´t received my copy (7 months delay now) and now they split up the content they created over at least two parts.

Sorry, no - I don´t think this move is reasonable.

I'm a little irked with them as well.

I didn't even realize there was an initial crowdfunding campaign. I only knew of the Bluray/DVD fundraiser they just did last year. Paid $85 for a physical copy on the promise that it was the ONLY way to see the documentary. It would never be streamed anywhere ever, would never be reprinted. Buy this Bluray, or never see it.

It's been reprinted once already, with a third pressing forthcoming. So much for the exclusivity we were promised.

I can only imagine how you guys that donated to the original campaign feel not still not having your initial backer copies even after people who donated to the DVD/Bluray fundraiser got theirs.

Edit: Just went and checked and I got the email announcing the sequel as well. It mentions the second one will be offered in a two pack with the original. So that's a FOURTH pressing

I sort of understand how you feel but more people being able to watch something is never a bad thing.

Pretty much. It's the principle of the thing. I'm not even mad that there are more pressings being done. I'm not stupid. I knew this thing was going to be reprinted eventually. But I figured they'd wait a while. My copy hadn't even shipped before they announced there would be another pressing. I'm upset about blatantly being lied to. I called them out on it and their response was basically "Oh, we never said that". And sure enough, I went back to the site and they had removed any mention of the limited nature of the disc.

Whatever. First world problems. It's a stupid ****ing bluray.

I backed the first one, and received the disc in February this year. Enjoyed it, but was surprised to see it on streaming services not long after considering the disc was supposed to be the only way to get the doc.

I've backed their sister documentary about 80s Sci-Fi already, but with this one at the moment I'm thinking I'll just wait until it is inevitably on Shudder.

Same here. It's a worthwhile project and nicely produced (content wise). It was a little disappointing to see one contributor adopting their youtuber persona though. It's not so bad when you click on one of their videos and you know what you're getting. But it's pretty jarring when it pops up in between the actual filmmakers being candid about their work and experiences.

Haha, I know exactly what you mean with this one. I watched the doc with a friend of mine and about 20 minutes in he turned to me and said "this YouTube guy is really f*cking annoying". Couldn't disagree with him. "Jarring" is exactly the right word.

I had a similar experience with a 7 hour, two parter on YouTube all about video nasties. It's peppered with "contributions" from Emily Booth, clearly reading from cue cards that are way off at an angle to the camera she's trying to address. In among the interviews with interested parties, like Kim Newman and the guy who used to do press for the labels at the time, it just brought the whole thing down and made her look amateurish next to the non-performers.

I was really looking forward to the first one and then that one Youtuber came on and it killed any momentum the doc had (which wasn't much). Said Youtuber got so much hate that they said that they won't be appearing in part two.

What I hated most about this doc is that it covered films we all know about. There is nothing wrong with covering the classics, but sprinkle in some lessor known films too. If you watch In Search of the Last Action Hero, by a far better and less scummy director, you will see classic action films covered but they also talk about films you may never have heard of which brings the value of the doc up in my book. Every film covered in the horror doc has its own making-of on that's film's blu-ray. What's the point then? It's stuff like this and the fact that there are at least 10 "collector's editions" for this sequel that cement the fact that horror fans will buy anything.

It also didn't sit well with me that the filmmakers were selling these "collector's editions" for the first one at huge price points while knowing that the doc was going to be on Shudder. That's just a con job to me and I refuse to support such endeavors.
