No the Disc Market is bad, but putting up your entire Collection can generate some excitement. I have sold a lot of my Collection on eBay, and UHD 4K was the only thing selling but people didn't want to pay over $10 if that much. Let's see what happens with this guy.

I getting the PS5 that plays disks rather than the version that has no disk player.
Maybe streaming is the future but I want to be able to play 4K disks and I also want to be able to sell on games that I have completed and you can't do that with a download.

Also, I am re-buying all my 3D movies on disk. I tried streaming 3D and the quality is rubbish.

I doubt that he will get anywhere near to what he is asking, but it would be interesting to see what happens. His post has been up since at least March 2, 2020, so it doesn't look like he is getting many offers.
Knowing that some titles are impossible to find now, the collection might be worth a lot more then you think to a wealthy collector looking for something like this. It's possible someone might just buy it. Wait and see.

He is selling it for a Million at Best Offer, but you can put options where the Buyer gets rejections immediately if the offer is too low. So the Seller could start in the Hundred Thousands before an offer is accepted, then the Seller has a time limit whether the offer is accepted or rejected. You can also send back the Buyer a message that you will accept at least this amount to sell. Then the Buyer has a time limit to accept or reject the new offer. I use to like to sell this way, my windows were set at a price I really wanted.

Then what would you do, start Streaming or start a new Collection of Discs?

Another sign in the decline in physical media. I was having issues with my new TV, new soundbar and old Sony X700. Went looking for a new player. There are very few options on the market right now. Seems like they're phasing out. I did get a Panasonic 420 which seems like a bargain. Always interested in the Panasonics, but the price was not reasonable. $219 for the same performance as the top end model is a steal. I know there's no Dolby Vision. New TV is a Samsung, so no problem there. The 420 has HDR10+.

That’s not a sign. That’s just you being unaware of how people buy their players these days.

Also, 110 million people own PS4s. The upcoming PS5 will play UHD. That doesn’t sound like phasing out to me. You have your cheap player right there (£250) There are plenty of options for stand-alone players online as well.

Practically nothing is impossible to find especially with pockets deep enough to drop a million dollars at one time for a movie collection.

I scanned the list of titles on offer and nothing leaped out at me as exceptionally hard to find.

10.3% of his collection is on VHS tape and another 41.6% is on DVD. Less than half of his collection is even on the blu-ray formats. His special collector sets that include toys and his steelbooks are likely his most desirable items and most of these are not that difficult to come by and these make up a small part of his overall collection. The bulk of what he is offering is ordinary and easy to find.

I never said that no one would buy his collection, only that I very much doubt that he will get anywhere close to what he is asking. If he can, more power to him.

Best Buy has 9 different 4K disc players listed for sale from $179.99 to $999.99, not including game consoles; just how many choices do you need?

Meanwhile over in fantasy land, we have a forum member that wants LG, and other TV manufacturers, to make 4:3 OLED TVs so that he can watch his old film noir movies without the vertical black bars on either side of the image.

I think that ebay seller will get his million bucks long before we see 4:3 OLED TVs.

That post was more or less a troll invite. He could do all he needs using a BD player over HDMI, if he wants to argue its because of his ancient gear, tough love.

He sure made a long and drawn out case for 4:3 OLED TVs that for all of his effort makes no sense. If he's just trying to attract trolls, he must love them dearly to have worked that hard to draw them. If you want trolls, just besmirch a Star Wars movie.

What about the ones that are out of print, what is the highest price you would pay for a Disc you still wanted?

I am contemplating spending $175 for an oop limited edition 3D title just because it is a vintage 3D movie.

While we are on the subject of resale values, just how much money would your digital collection fetch on the secondary market? Exactly nothing; I answered the question for you because I did not want you to struggle with adding all of those zeroes together.

Or just haven't been available digitally to begin with.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... while having to pay high secondary market prices is certainly not ideal, at the bear minimum it is a legit means by which to obtain a copy of a movie that is not otherwise currently in print and may not even be available through any digital/streaming options.

Whether a particular OOP title is worth the asking price is up to the individual. But an expensive option is still far better than NO option.

And on the flip side of the coin, if you have a physical copy of a movie that you bought while it was available that has since gone OOP and now goes for high prices, you have the option to sell it if you decide it is not a title that you necessarily want to keep long term and the money would be more worth while. You could even put that money towards another expensive OOP title that you may want to get, making the cost easier to justify.

Between my DVDs, Blu-Rays, and my myriad of video game systems and games going back to the early 80s, while not everything holds a high value, I have plenty of items in my collection that have gone OOP and gained value since I originally obtained them. While I have no plans to sell them at this time, it is nice knowing that I have the option.

As just one example, I've got Mega Man V for Game Boy compete in box, in pretty good condition. I bought it back when it was a new game on store shelves in the mid-90s, and I still have it.

Here is a recent Ebay listing that was up for bid and sold for a complete in box copy that isn't even in as good of a condition as mine:

I want them to make 2.40:1 TVs.

Better movies are often 2.40:1 and everything else could just get bars on the sides which are less distracting.

Thankfully, I use a projector so I can zoom to fit any screen. My screen is 2.40:1.

I am interested in TV type displays ( have 2 of them elsewhere in the house) and would prefer if they came in 2.40:1

It might be cheaper on ebay; I'll have to look there before deciding.
