I assume that you're suggesting that this will be a release through their Too Extreme for Mainstream imprint, like Torment.

That's certainly a possibility, considering the problems that Unearthed had with the Serbian Film auction, but the film is so well known internationally that it's hard for me to imagine that a limited release of the uncut version would be adequate to meet the demand and even necessary given its critical acclaim. Any challenge to the film's legitimacy as art could easily be rebutted, IMO.

So the long gestating Unearthed Films release of this film is nearing completion soon. It's going to be an entirely new cut of the film utilizing an additional 6.5 minutes of footage never before seen/used in any of the other cuts. The director has granted his permission and the materials to make this release possible and has been working with Stephen Biro of Unearthed Films for over a year now to make this possible. It will essentially be the Directors Cut of the film... completely Uncut and extended.

The new cut will include a bit more dialogue, a bit more nudity, a bit more gore, extra shots, extra scenes, just a bit of everything.

No set release date yet but it shouldn't be much longer now for folks that have been waiting. Don't expect to find this one on any of the standard retail channels, it will likely be sold directly by Unearthed Films. I can't wait. This will be a Triple dip for me. This weirdly disturbing/depressing film has wormed its way into my collection as both the UK cut and the 3 disc Swedish edition and is part of my yearly viewings these days, so having a new edition to check out will prove very interesting.

I've never seen A Serbian Film and avoided it for years due to its reputation. But lately I've been wanting to finally cross it off the list but of course I come to find out it's OOP everywhere. I may pick up this new release, especially considering that it's fully uncut.

I've always been curious about seeing this, but not being already familiar with it, it's been very confusing trying to find a true uncut version. If this is it, I *may* check it out. (It honestly depends on price, since it would be a blind buy.)

The only Uncut edition on Blu Ray that has been Region A Friendly and included english subs has been this edition...

The previous US releases have been cut as have most other releases overseas. The one or two that weren't cut have been region locked and/or lacked english subs.

In regards to DVD, this edition is fully uncut...

All versions are out of print as I understand things.

The new edition from Unearthed Films will not be the original uncut edition as originally shown. Yes it will have all of the scenes/content found in the original releases, but it's adding in additional footage never before seen as well. This new footage was not included in the original premier release and so this new version should be considered an uncut-extended edition of the film. It is not however the original cut if one wants to be true to how it was presented upon release.

Hope that helps.

Any word on the Unearthed Films release? Coming up on a year since the last post on the subject.

I'm at a loss to be honest. They sent me an email stating that it was in violation of their policies, but I see multiple other listings both active and completed. The only other time I've encountered this issue was when trying to sell an old DVD copy of Nekromantik, and it was exactly the same.

ebay has done the exact same thing to me for a few select titles. I don't know if it is the title, the UPC, or other users reporting it, that gets it flagged in the system.

I don't recall it ever happening to me aside from Nekromantik and now A Serbian Film. I guess if it really is an issue, then my bad for not paying attention to the rules... but seeing a number of other live and completed listings makes me question the whole thing.

News just came out that the UK is starting to put disclaimers at the beginning of films like Aliens and Lawrence of Arabia for being racially insensitive. It's just a matter of time before films like 'Serbian will be downright illegal to own, lol

Aliens? Because of the joking with Vasquez?

Personally, I found the father in ‘The Woman’ far more repulsive than the entirety of a Serbian film, only because I’ve met so many people like the father in that film.

Sky just gave a blanket statement about the movies receiving this warning:

Quote:
“Aladdin,” “Aliens,” “Balls of Fury,” “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” “Dumbo,” “Flash Gordon,” “Gone With the Wind,” “The Goonies,” “The Jazz Singer,” “Jungle Book,” “The Last Samurai,” “Lawrence of Arabia,” “The Littlest Rebel,” “The Lone Ranger,” “Trading Places,” and “Tropic Thunder”.

Upon searching for these films on the Sky Cinema service, a description now includes the disclaimer: “This film has outdated attitudes, language and cultural depictions which may cause offence today.”
The specific joke with Hudson about Vasquez was an in joke since the actress actually thought the movie she was auditioning for was about illegal Aliens. So if this disclaimer is being put in front of Aliens because of that in particular, then the Sky people need to do their due diligence of research, imo

Wow that list is interesting... let’s hope they don’t discover the rest of cinema.
Thanks. I can only think of 4 things in that movie that could offend a group. And I think that you’d really have to be reaching in order to be offended
- illegal alien joke
-mistaken for a man joke
-Ripley’s ‘speciesist’ animosity towards androids ‘you didn’t tell me there would be an Android’
-breakfast joke about Arturian p.tang but that’s a fake race/species to my knowledge.

Let’s just put a disclaimer in front of all movies, music, books, etc. ‘you may or may not be offended by this particular work of art. If you are, change the channel, remove the disc, stop listening, close the book. Life is too short to waste your time complaining about X when you could have been enjoying Y’

The full uncut edition is illegal in the UK. The first version I purchased was the UK Blu Ray Edition. I believe it's cut by 9 minutes. Even in its completely cut form it was still disturbing as hell on the first watch. Later on I acquired the 3 disc dutch edition and that is now the only version I watch but I've kept the UK cut as the packaging is great and it's a novelty to see this film trimmed as almost every edition has a different run time due to the various edits by region.

I'm assuming the documentary being produced about the movie will be released whenever this new edition is announced?

I hope it's not a "too extreme for mainstream" release, since it shouldn't be limited, especially with a feature length documentary being made about it.

I do wonder whether the U.K. edit is in anyway similar to the U.S. NC-17 theatrical release? It runs about 99 minutes or less. And it sounds like the distributor was attempting to get an R rating based on the cuts it contains. The NC-17 version was never released on home video in the U.S., only a limited theatrical release and or On Demand at the time of release.

Hang on a minute. You're insinuating you have not only watched this multiple times but continue to do so?

You should be on a watchlist.
