There is now a German blu-ray. Not bad, but with a couple of issues.
The colors are very saturated. Much more than on the U.S. DVD. That may well be the director's intent, in which case that's fine. But it seemed less appropriate emotionally than the more monochrome U.S. look. Also, there are some stability issues. The picture jitters occasionally and even dips out of focus for moments, as if there were registration issues during transfer. Again, these are not present on the U.S. DVD. On the other hand, certainly there is more detail and better grain resolution - at least to my eye. I ended up keeping both the German BR and my old DVD. |
