I was excited until I realized it's not an actual book. LOL! I'll just grab the standard 4K.

I think it's mostly the old disc though. Studios rarely have a good reason to re-do the blu when they feel that the majority of UHD buyers are in it mostly for the 4K, and the existing blu master is mostly okay.

Great news!
Saw the 4k DCP in the theaters the other year, looked good. Some of those glow in the dark colors looked amazing, really made use of the much wider gamut. Detail better too, although it won't be any sort of 4k detail champ, it is 80s film stock and lenses for this sort of film. But does look more natural and wide gamut usage should be really good. HDR might help a bit too but hopefully they don't go too nuts with it. Too often they force an unnatural master on old film when doing HDR (although stuff like MadVR can tweak it back to a mostly pretty beautiful, pretty natural look). |

WB did it for the Batman films, re-encoded Batman Begins in AVC and gave it a DTS-HD track, The Matrix Trilogy, Unforgiven, The Shining, 2001: Space Odyssey, and prolly others as well. See no reason why WB wouldn't do a new remastered BD.

You seeing no reason for that does not mean that a reason doesn't exist. Reason (I thought this was already said): COST. It's not free to make the new blu, even though they remastered the film for 4KUHD. They will if they think it's warranted from a sales standpoint (makes it more attractive). Note: there may come a day when the 4K doesn't even come with a standard blu. It's already happening to some degree. |
