Arrow Venom Carnage Officially Announced

Quote:
Even though "Spider-Man 4" is already in the works, Sony Pictures is still proceeding with a "Venom" spin-off, which would focus on the villain previously played by Topher Grace in "Spider-Man 3."

Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who are working on Sony's "Zombieland," are writing the "Venom" script. While they refuse to give away any details, they do feel the pressure with handling the property.

"It's terrifying. It's source material that everyone knows and everybody's familiar with, and everybody loves," Reese told FirstShowing. "And so there's a burden on you to meet the expectations of people. With 'Zombieland,' you just come out of left field, and they like or they don't. They're not going to feel pissed if you f*ck it up."

There is no doubt that "Venom" would be a big earner, but "Amazing Spider-Man" comics' Todd McFarlane believes that a film based on a villain would likely not be very good.

"I'm thinking about how they want to make anti-heroes nowadays," he said, citing Halle Berry's disastrous turn in "Catwoman" as an example. "Those don't work. The reason they're so cool as a bad guy is because they're bad. And as soon as you try to give too much humanity to them, then you go, 'No! Now they're not as good as a bad guy because you're trying to redeem them'."

this is such a bad idea imo...if anything he should be re implemented if a reboot ever takes place (altho at this point there's obviously no talk of one with spiderman 4 coming out in a year). great character that deserves a good amount of screen time, but not in his very own movie..

Could be a pretty good horror flick. I doubt they'd take it in that direction though. If they want the money, they'd have to go PG13.

Still, I've read a few good Venom stories. Key word being few.

The original "Venom" series was pretty decent for the first 10 issues, I remember that having a LE glow in the dark cover that was badass.

Ah, very true. Liked by a few. But it did turn a profit, which is what Hollywood is all about after all. Even if they stomp all over the source material.

Venom was an awesome character. He was always my favorite spiderman bad guy. I was sad how they had him in spiderman 3. I would've been happy with just him as the bad guy.

i wouldnt be opposed to a 'horror' movie with the symbiote
but not like a typical horror movie, just basically the type of movie that the symbiote would deserve, which i believe leans towards horror and not action/adventure like superhero movies
that would also mean it wouldnt have to be Venom (i.e. no Brock)
if done right i think that would be sick

edit: also, no watering it down for the kiddies (read: money)

I am so ready for a venom movie. Hopefully it will also have carnage in it and have some different cameos, maybe even have spider-man in it towards the end for an epic battle between the 3 characters. This movie could be pretty tight. I do see it making a bunch of money in the box office.

Lol. Yeah I am a venom fan so I do want to see a live action venom movie really badly. In spider-man 3, they screwed up venom so much and didn't do him justice. And he died, so quick which really pissed me off. They definitely need to do this movie to make the venom fans which I am, very happy.

I'm pumped for this but McFarlane has a great point. Which is exactly why they don't need to make Venom seem redeeming or whatever, just cause total havok!

I agree that I didn't really hate venom in spider-man 3. I thought the look of him was pretty cool and his scenes when he fights are pretty cool, but he just wasn't the comic venom I wanted. And it was kind of lame how he found sandman so fast and wanted to team up. Venom never wants to team up with anyone. He just wants to destroy everything in his path.

i definitly agree on the rushed feel to the sandman/venom team-up
i would have LOVED a spidey vs venom movie with the harry sidestory
or a sandman vs spidey with the harry sidestory
but as for a spidey vs venom/sandman with the harry story (not side)
eh...

i mean i am one of the few who really liked spiderman 3 alot, it's grown on me over repeated viewings, but it is still not even close to the quality of 2 (most comic book movies arent)
and i will definitly admit it has its flaws of course, but i still like it

I am also one of the few to like Spider-man 3. The only problems I had with it were the corny dancing scenes and I had my problems with venom which I just addressed. But to see venom on screen was cool and the overall story was pretty good.

Sony could incorporate other villains or heroes from the Spider-man universe since they have the rights. Who knows what direction they might decide to go.

as corny as the dance scene was
i've been giving it thought
and i honestly dont hate it anymore (nor do i like it)
because, if u would expect character traits of someone like parker to be applified (like the symbiote does)
they would become INCREDIBLY lame and think they are cool
thus explaining the dance scene
of course, that doesnt mean it should be put on film
