To be fair, America's decline & turmoil (particularly at the moment) is near the top of the international news pretty much every day.

Having been to the States quite a lot, one thing I always notice is that the news over there seems about 95% domestic, but in most other countries international stories are a lot more prominent in the news.

Oh no, I definitely get that and understand it but my contention with that is that media and social media shouldn't be your ONLY gauge of what is actually going on. If possible, you should engage any friends or family you have to talk to about the subject, country in question, get their perspective on a personal, day to day level.
