the Roger Corman commentary track on the 'Piranha' steelbook is one of the best to get a complete overview of his career as producer and all, highly recommended!!

the commentary for the 1979 Amityville Horror bluray is a slogfest as well - talk about redundant.

The commentary for Resident Evil is a hoot. You can tell Paul W.S. Anderson actually wants to commentate the film, but Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez just wanna have a good time.

I also really liked the early 00s commentaries for The Evil Dead and Evil Dead II, but I still haven't listened to the new one which accompanied the former when it arrived on Blu-ray.

As for worst... soz, Mr. Burton, but your commentary for Batman was a bore.

The Burton/Paul Reubens joint commentary on Pee Wee’s Big Adventure is stellar, though.

I'd expect nothing less from Pee-wee Herman himself.

His commentary for Sleepy Hollow is so sporadic, non-informative and meandering it's like he's trolling the studio who probably paid money for it.

"This is a cool shot. I'm not exactly sure why." [long pause, laughs]

I don't listen to commentaries much anymore. I have too much movies/shows to watch. But I have bookmarked a site called Rate That Commentary. People rate all the commentaries from movies. There is a best and worst lists. It's worth checking out if your into commentaries.

The Se7en commentary from the Criterion disc was the first I ever listened to that really hooked me.

You never forget your first.

Keith Gordon’s commentaries are uniformly excellent. Check him out on The Chocolate War, Waking the Dead, A Midnight Clear (with Ethan Hawke), and Christine (with John Carpenter)

American Pie 2 bizarrely has 4 or 5 commentary tracks, including a really awkward and strange one with Eddie Kaye Thomas by himself for some reason

Sidenote:

I remember reading about a commentary where the director of the movie just eviscerates the film. It apparently was so controversial that it caused studios to start implementing the disclaimer we see today where they say the participants’ opinions don’t reflect the studio’s.

Does anyone know what the film and or commentary was? I want to hear it. Thanks in advance.

The Fincher/Pitt/Norton commentary on Fight Club is really good too!

Mine was the Bryan Singer/Christopher McQuarrie track on the Usual Suspects laserdisc. Immediately became a fan of commentaries.

I haven't listened to many, but I love both commentaries for Napoleon Dynamite.
