I would have bought the Criterion edition of War of the Worlds too if it wasn't region locked. That's why I've bought the Aussie edition instead, which is region-free. A real classic 50's sci-fi, and looking forward to receiving it.
I’m really excited to be watching Come And See tonight. I have seen it before but not in HD. Imo, it’s a really strong war film, one of my favourites.

Enjoy WOTW!

That's it mate, you've sold it to me. It's on order - looking forward to it now.

I can get ATT Gig Fiber with the new house. My current internet speed is 150 mbps which has been plenty fast to stream 4K content from Netflix and other providers. So I'm not expecting a great bump moving to 1000 mbps for streaming. Download speeds on the other hand...

My goal was to find a home that was still in the building stage so I could add CAT6 throughout the house but that didn't happen. I could go back and run it myself but that is a huge pain cutting sheetrock and crawling around in the attic. I have an AC2600 router which gives me 1733 mbps on the 5Ghz band. That is more than enough throughput for the Gig fiber connection. Even though it has more square footage than my current house it is a ranch style, so with everything on a single level there will be less signal obstruction.

A friend of mine has been building his own house for years and I used to envy the Ethernet ports he has in every room but these days I prefer relying more on the wireless networking. I run wire to the home theater rack but since the pandemic started I prefer to watch discs more than ever to keep the bandwidth for others in the house who do video calls and work from home.

Having the best internet connection isn’t a priority for me. We have a bonded DSL and it’s fine.

No, I mean subjective by trained professionals and knowledgeable, sharp eyed enthusiast.

Remember, you could not answer if your display had motion interpolation On or Off or what your frame rate setting was. You most definitely land in the casual movie watcher category with millions of others.

Worse, he’s willing to try to believe a lie.
That’s a lot of maintenance without any reason and ultimately like trying to walk in opposite directions at the same time.

I can agree with loving what you have.
Trying to pretend it’s something that it’s not though is delusional.

I don’t like BMWs but I don’t pretend my Honda’s are better engineered. They just fit my own needs better.

Liking streaming and Bluetooth headphones is one thing trying to convince others that better things are no better is another.

No there is

objective (which is the only one IMHO with any value in this discussion): and that is "I have compared both and physical media looks and sounds much better"

subjective (in some instances has some value, but probably not in this discussion) : and that is "I have compared both and even though physical media looks and sounds much better, I find streaming to be acceptable."

bias dribble (always useless): " I don't have a UHD BD player and so have never compared the two properly but I want to say something asinine like Streaming is Disc like Quality!"

My son lives in Austin, TX and they have DSL. The other day we were doing a video chat and I asked what the speed of their DSL was. He ran a speed test and it showed 80 Mbps down, 18 Mbps up. He said they are using fiber to neighborhood nodes with pairs to homes. A lot of change since I last looked at DSL.

For most of us that do both we have a problem when posters say streaming quality = disc quality. Objective and subjective data says otherwise.
I agree streaming with it's compression vs direct signal (disc ) is no contest. Disc rules.

I still prefer wired if possible, but with WiFi6 (802.11ax) and mesh technology ethernet is not really needed.

Maybe Flyry is pining for a sense of belonging? After all, it must be dizzying trying to keep up with which streaming titles have disappeared this week or which studio has censored what content.
Flyry is alright; he is as welcome, and he belongs, here as much as anyone.

We need other points of view. I loathe echo chambers.

I think you've just earned yourself a "wired connection is better" lecture.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if his TV settings are the default ones that it came with straight out of the box.

Thanks Ender14 for answering me, that's good you have access to AT&T Gigabit Fiber. I know moving into a new home can be expensive. I have run my own wiring, and it's not fun. They do have Contractors that run low voltage wiring, but if it can't be done now you can always do it later it's just more hassle and cost. With a good Router and Signal you should be alright. Enjoy your new home, you do have good resources to upgrade later.

exactly, I like my car (old, base model, Hyundai Elantra) I don't pretend it can fit as many people and stuff as a minivan, I don't pretend it can accelerate like a Ferrari, that it can reach the same top speed as Lamborghini....

It is a nice cheap compact car that was completely paid for on day one and gets me everywhere I want to go. And that will continue working well until electric cars make more sense.

Just added 4 titles to the Barnes & Noble shopping cart from the Criterion sale and all show out of stock for online ordering . Sure hope they get more in stock before the sale ends.

You're right I'm not a professional, but I think I am more than a casual Movie watcher. At least that is the impression I get when I talk to that Average Person on the street about Movies. With the equipment and setup that I have, the Quality is Disc like IMO to me, especially BD 1080P.

I fixed that fer ya.

Whenever you say that you accost people "on the street," I envision this peculiar old man wandering up to random strangers and cornering them in awkward and unwanted conversations.
