Except that I don't think masks are necessary outside if you're not within 6' of someone.

They are now required here in New Mexico if you leave your home, even if you're exercising. I expect enforcement on that to be spotty at best, we'll see how it goes.
Don't think any other state is requiring masks while running. |

I never quite understood the anti-mask thing. Sure, if you have to wear it at work all day long then that is an inconvenience but it's not like you're required to do that for no reason. And when you don't have to wear it at work and only hve to wear it when you go shopping then I particularily don't get it. You wear it for what....half an hour a couple times a week? And in shops where it's nice and cool too.
I think it always helps to ask 2 questions. What's the best thing that can happen? And what's the worst thing that can happen from an anti-maskers perspective? The best thing that can happen is that masks don't help and you were right all along. And the worst thing that can happen is that masks actually do help and you have to admit you were wrong. And if that is the worst thing that can happen then I'd say it's at the very least worth giving it a shot. |

Here in California it's the 6' rule. I did a long run in the trails yesterday and encountered hundreds of people. Much of it was on fire roads so I was able to social distance and didn't put on my mask when encountering others. On single track just about everyone just pulled up their mask when they saw me. Notable exception were bikers. Most of them couldn't be bothered to mask up. I didn't really care personally since there heads were on a higher plane when they passed, but it shows they don't really respect the rules (which is typical since bikers tend to be younger). Also don't care for allowing electric bikes on trails because not they can just cruise uphill without doing the work and that's not right. Also it means there will be more of them, since most people just want to fly downhill without doing the work to get to the top. Some people just pulled up their shirt, which I've done several times when caught off guard. Some people just stopped and turned away from me until I passed. Was interesting to see since I saw a lot of people. |

Just pull up your shirt? That has to be almost as bad as a bandana lol
deckard82, I posted this in the US theatres closing thread, I'll put it here too. Batman sums it up nicely. ![]() I hate masks. I think they're gross and cumbersome and make it hard to talk to people. Not to mention as a runner they're a huge nuisance I have to deal with in order to keep running. However there's a good chance they're one of the best weapons we have right now without a vaccine. |

Yeah, well there were a lot of bandanas. I think that's fine if your just crossing paths. It doesn't have to be a 3 layer mask, IMO. I think the trail races that have proceeded since covid only required a bandana (if I'm not mistaken). At least, during the race itself. I have a race coming up in 10 weeks, will be curious as to how things are laid out.
I use an N95 with a rubber band that I wear on my forehead when running (and in the shop at work as well). It's got a plastic spiderweb outer shell so I never touch the fabric. It's easy for me to pull down and back up when passing people on the trail. On the streets or fire roads I don't bother to bring it along because I can social distance there. This virus is airborne and when people talk, droplets come out of your mouth and stay in the air. By wearing a mask, you are significantly decreasing the amount of droplets that get into the air. This is why it's most retarded thing in the world when people wear a mask and then take it off to talk. |

I'm sure my two n95s will fail eventually though. The surgeon in the youtube has a doctor's model n95 and I have a painting sanding n95 I bought about two years ago. |

You can't social distance in a store. That's why they're required there in the first place. Outside optional unless you can't social distance. You don't need to have a mask on if you can social distance outside. At least, here in sunny California. But of course, you can wear one anyway if you want to. Personally though, I find prolonged mask use outside, especially in summer, rather unpleasant. I was in Costco with my N95 for 20 minutes and taking it off outside it felt like I got out from being locked in a trunk, the air was so refreshing. |

I've used the same N95 for store use since the pandemic began. Maybe it's time to change it. ![]() |

3M™ 8210 Performance Respirator I'm not even sure if they're hospital grade, but I made it back from Costco AND the grocery store in one piece - that's not nothing. Do the moldex ones wrap around your head with both elastic straps/bands? My 3M's did that. Have them looping around the ears with the goody elastic hair bands (two looped together) instead of looped around the head now. Oh, and one of my masks elastic straps broke in the middle of Costco. Scary times. That's when I immediately went searching for how to fix it. Last edited by ctujackbauer; 07-14-2020 at 02:49 AM. |

Got the following email today.
Due to a rise in COVID-19 cases, Governor Gavin Newsom is requiring several industries and activities to shut down immediately unless they can be modified to operate outside or by pick-up. ![]() I will say that, today, I saw far more people WITHOUT masks than I have in a very, very long time. It's not even that they were around their chins. There was none to be seen. Disconcerting, to say the least. Hell, I was even in a 7-11 that had the "masks must be worn at all times" sign and the guy in line in front of me didn't have one. |

Speaking of masks being unpleasant in the summer, I get nagged at by my parents that I don't wear gloves outside. I'm sorry, but it's 90 degrees out with 100% humidity. Wearing gloves during this heat is just plain disgusting, especially since my sweat glands are insanely overactive. I carry a bottle of hand sanitizer with me at all times and I sanitize every time I touch something, so it's all good. But masks, I keep it on as much as possible unless there is absolutely nobody around, which is rare here in NY. Last edited by MrHT; 07-14-2020 at 03:16 AM. |
