well, a couple of factors can play a role in the PQ you describe.

1. Have you calibrated your TV?

2. Some movies have "film grain" which some people are sensitive to. But this is how a film was intended.

I would venture and say there would be little to no difference using another player, but that's a debate I don't feel like engaging. I myself have a PS3 and a Sony BDP-S350 and I see no difference. Not to say other players will yield the same result, but honestly I think your issue is calibrating the TV and/or the movie youre watching has grain.

Rent Cars or Ratatouille. When watching one of these, if you see grain, something's wrong.

a movie like "300" is notorious for film grain.

What movies were you watching?

Lakeview Terrace got a good review as far as PQ goes. Although I have not seen this movie myself.

No mention of any film grain, so it leads me to believe you need to (calibrate) adjust your picture settings. Turn your sharpness way down for starters.

Could you give us more details please ?

What kind of cable are you using.

Is there any other device the PS3 is hooked up to before it sends its signal to your TV.

What kind of TV do you have.

Have you tried switching the cable inputs at the TV ( HDMI I assume ) between your cable box and PS3.

Sorry for the many posts try this website out to see some different setting on your vizio.

http://www.tweaktv.com/tweak-my-tv/vizio-2.html

I still would check that the cable although monster may be causing some of your problems. Switch the HDMI inputs on your TV and or the cables. Cable box HDMI to PS3 and vice versa.
