Not loving the new "red carpet exclusives" that Zavvi is doing (got an email about one for BEETLEJUICE too) and yet only UK citizens seem to be able to sign up for Red Carpet? For $13/year (or less, Reddit has a 20% code listed on their SteelBook sub) I'd do it but when I tried to sign up it said my address wasn't eligible.

The JPN BD is obviously being redone to include the dub so they might as well use the updated transfer, but who knows what the thinking will be for the Western release. Warners aren't big on including redone BDs and when they do they don't always turn out well.

Yes, if I recall correctly, the exact same thing happened with Blade Runner. Although it's highly uncommon and usually identical discs are used with only the audio tracks modified. I also find it interesting that they left the dubs out of the new Blu-ray specifications, so something is incomplete and/or possibly incorrect, though in this case, I expect they just forgot to include the dub tracks in the Blu-ray specs, since they've been so specific that the Blu-ray is remastered.

EDIT: I was wrong about Blade Runner. The disc did include Japanese dubs and also the UHD Blu-ray's Atmos track, but the video encode is identical to the old VC-1 Blu-ray, as I showed here.

At this point, I'm trying to remember if WB have ever done what they seem to be doing with The Goonies before in Japan. The only one of the different Japanese dubbed Blu-rays that I know actually has a new video encode is Full Metal Jacket (here), but even then, I believe it is the same HD master.

Also, the Japanese front cover appears to have the Dolby Vision logo:

Redoing the BD to include a dub I could understand, but as the UHD is literally a brand new disc then why wouldn't Warners just put the dubs onto the UHD under a hidden playlist like they usually do? Unless....it's the same UHD worldwide and it's got Dobly after all (albeit just MEL so nothing to get excited about).

Well the Japanese cover could be wrong (the Japanese release is over 5 weeks later than the UK/US) but as this is a WB catalogue title, the UHD disc is almost certainly identical worldwide with the Japanese support hidden.The supposed remastered Blu-ray might be a Japanese exclusive, though--it even gets full color artwork, while the UHD disc is the standard WB white-title-on-black disc art:

Yeah it's not the BD I'm questioning, I think it's more than likely we'll just be getting the old Blu while they get that newly localised disc.

No idea right now, unfortunately. WB generally provides Japanese subtitles for audio commentaries and did for The Goonies (ironically, at least one of the 2008 Blu-rays for the film also had myriad commentary subtitles, including English, which is highly unusual for WB), but one thing these Japanese dubbed editions from WHV Japan have been is inconsistent. It is highly likely that the Japanese UHD Blu-ray is identical to all the others, so assuming that the commentary track is included there, you will get it on that disc. However, it is not currently listed on either disc in the Japanese UHD edition specifications, though these specs appear to be at least partially incomplete and will hopefully be updated soon.

Same for me which is sad.

I have no idea why does WB chose to upgrade to DTS-HD MA 5.1 from Dolby TrueHD 5.1 instead of going with an immersive audio mix.

Beetlejuice is also from WB but that one got Atmos. This is so lazy and unacceptable.
